Effects Of Random Cross-Sectioned Distributions, Fiber Misalignment And Interphases In Three-Dimensional Composite Models On Transverse Shear Modulus, Jarrett Zitko

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Finite element analysis was implemented to evaluate the transverse shear modulus of a unidirectional glass/epoxy fiber-matrix composite based on pure shear displacement boundary conditions. Unit cells consisting of three-dimensional glass cylinders surrounded in square-cuboid epoxy matrices were modeled to represent "Representative Volume Element" (RVE) configurations in periodic and random-periodic square cell arrangements of variable size. Three RVEs were constructed and analyzed: A single unit cell, a 9-cell (3 x 3) array, and a 25-cell (5 x 5) array. Additionally, the unit cell was modeled to include an interphase. Three sets of cell arrangements were constructed and evaluated: a periodic square …

Precipitation Of Phosphate Minerals From Effluent Of Anaerobically Digested Swine Manure, Alex Y. Lin

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Swine production represents approximately 40% of the world's meat production, and its wastes contain high concentrations of organic carbon, nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P). Anaerobic digestion is an increasingly popular technology for treating animal wastes while simultaneously generating energy. Its propagation and ability to solubilize organic N and P make adding a struvite recovery process attractive. Recovering struvite (MgNH4PO4) from anaerobically digested swine waste can address global P shortages, meet P discharge guidelines, and produce slow-release fertilizer, which can be sold for revenue.

Anaerobic digesters were operated with at organic loading rates of 3.4-3.9 g volatile solids per liter per …

Computation Of The Stochastic Volatility And Levy Index Using The Kolmogorov-Feller Equation With Applications To Carbon Price Data Analysis, Jonathan Blackledge, Marc Lamphiere, Afshin Panahi

Articles

We derive new algorithms for computing time variations in the Stochastic Volatility and the L´evy index using a standard financial price model and a Green’s function solution to the Kolmogorov-Feller equation. A principal condition upon which the algorithms are based is the Phase Only Condition which allows the Power Spectral Density Function of a financial time series (specifically the log price differences) to be taken to be a constant. The paper is composed of four component parts: (i) the Stochastic Volatility is derived and studied numerically; (ii) the Kolmogorov-Feller equation is studied and solved to provide a model for the …

Non-Gaussian Anisotropic Diffusion Processing For Medical Imagining Using The Osirix Dicom Viewer, Jonathan Blackledge, Matthew Blackledge, Jane Courtney

Articles

Medical imaging is a fertile area for computer graphics, image processing and real time visualization. In this paper we present a method for reducing noise in CT (Computed Tomography) and MR (Magnetic Resonance) images that (in addition to other noise sources) is characteristic of the numerical procedures required to construct the images, namely, the (inverse) Radon Transform. In both cases, MR imaging in particular, an additional noise source is due to the process of diffusion thereby predicating use of the Anisotropic Diffusion method for noise suppression. This method is based on a diffusion model for noise generation where the Diffusivity …
