Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) has found use in single
channel separation of audio signals, as it gives a parts-based decom-
position of audio spectrograms where the parts typically correspond
to individual notes or chords. However, a notable shortcoming of
NMF is the need to cluster the basis functions to their sources af-
ter decomposition. Despite recent improvements in algorithms for
clustering the basis functions to sources, much work still remains to
further improve these algorithms. To this end we present a novel
clustering algorithm which overcomes some of the limitations of

Electromechanical instability (EMI) is one of most common failure modes for dielectric elastomers (DEs). It has been reported that pre-stretching a DE sample can suppress EMI due to strain stiffening taking place for larger strains and a higher elastic modulus are achieved at high stretch ratios when a voltage is applied to the material. Respiratory diseases are a great health concern. Early detection of disease could greatly improve quality of life and yet the most common pulmonary function test can be an unreliable diagnostic method, especially in the case of children. A reliable method of detecting and assessing small airway impairment could greatly help with timely diagnosis. This research approaches this problem by taking Impulse Oscillometry (IOS) data and its model-derived parameters and assessing their utility in tracking respiratory function and more specifically, small airway function.

It is the most prevalent chronic respiratory disease in children. The ability to predict failure of composite laminates due to delaminations is critical because of its subsurface nature. Traditional strengthening methods such as stitching and Z-pinning, while improving interlaminar properties in woven composites, lead to a reduction of the in-plane properties. Electrospun non-woven sheets of nanofibrous mat applied at interfacial regions offer an option to traditional treatments. Applications where protrusion energy must be dissipated completely would benefit the most from the use of the electrospinning treatment. Examples are bullet proof vests and vehicle armor.
