Electromagnetic Survey Design Using Artifical Neural Networks, Shariful Islam Sharif
Electromagnetic Survey Design Using Artifical Neural Networks, Shariful Islam Sharif
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Acquiring geophysical information requires selection of the geophysical method based upon the defining physical property and a survey design with adequate resolution but cost effective based upon the size of the area to be surveyed. The objective of this study is to use artificial neural nets (ANNs) to design an optimal survey. The developed approach is tested for the case of soil pipe surveying using electromagnetics. Soil pipes are tortuous voids located within 1.5 m depth of the ground surface. They trend perpendicular to the slope and have cross-sectional dimensions on the order of millimeters to tens of centimeters. The …

One of the most important and complex tasks in power engineering is the analysis of power systems under fault conditions. The detection and analysis of these faults are important to guarantee that the dependability and stability of the power system does not decline as a result of a critical event such as a fault. This thesis will conduct research on how a power system under fault conditions behaves and will examine the various scenarios of faults such as three-phase, single line-to-ground, line-to-line, and double line-to-ground faults. A simplified method based on symmetrical components is used to construct the mathematical models …

Modeling and simulation tools have been an integral part of engineering world for a long time. Various Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools have been extensively used in various industries and research to evaluate the performance of electronic systems. The advancement of such design tools also has influenced the optical communication sector such that there has been a continuous progress on the Photonic Design Automation (PDA) tools. Currently, many software for simulating optical communications are available. However, they are very expensive and conceal the information on how components are modeled. To avoid these constraints, we developed our own PDA software for …

Executive Summary:
The Inyo National Forest is arguably one of the most beautiful locations in California, containing natural masterpieces such as Mount Whitney and the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest. Despite its magnificence, the Inyo National Forest can be a treacherous region. The Friends of the Inyo take pride in being able to facilitate the viewing experience for all outdoorsmen by maintaining the mountain trails, which includes providing adequate trail signage.
Unfortunately, there is a fundamental issue with the recent state of trail signage in the Inyo National Forest: the rate at which signs are being vandalized or naturally destroyed is …
Low Power Real-Time Video And Audio Embedded System Design For Naturalistic Bicycle Study, Janardhan Bhima Reddy Karri
Low Power Real-Time Video And Audio Embedded System Design For Naturalistic Bicycle Study, Janardhan Bhima Reddy Karri
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
According to NHTSA Traffic Safety Facts [9], bicyclist deaths and injuries in 2013 are recorded as 732 and 48,000, respectively. In the State of Florida the safety of bicyclists is of particular concern as the bicycle fatality rates are nearly triple the national average. Further Florida ranks #1 on bicycle fatality rate in the nation for several years. To determine the cause of near-misses and crashes, a detailed study of bicyclist behavior and environmental conditions is needed. In a Florida Department of Transport (FDOT) funded project, USF CUTR has proposed naturalistic bicycle study based on ride data collected from 100 …

An Application For Keeping Track Of Food Item Expiration, Rejin Paul James
An Application For Keeping Track Of Food Item Expiration, Rejin Paul James
Theses and Dissertations
Food, honestly, is too precious to waste. Food wastage is a very serious issue prevalent in the world today. American households alone throw out an equivalent of $165 billion worth of food each year. People often forget to consume food they purchased before the expiration date, or sometimes they over-purchase food they can have, then throw them away. Hence, this thesis aims to prevent food wastage with the help of a smart phone application that helps keep track of food item expiration dates and gives you notification alerts when it is about to expire. It implements a barcode scanner for …
Computer-Aided Engineering Tools For Structural Health Monitoring Under Operational Conditions, Priscilla O. Mensah-Bonsu
Computer-Aided Engineering Tools For Structural Health Monitoring Under Operational Conditions, Priscilla O. Mensah-Bonsu
Master's Theses
This thesis presents two different applications of computer-aided non-destructive approaches for structures monitored under operational conditions. The first part of the thesis is the development of a graphical user interface (GUI) software for real-time autonomous assessment of structural health condition based on the signature vibration properties of the structure under study. The program, called ConImote2, operates on the wireless sensor network platform called imote2. ConImote2 is created in the Matlab platform for accessibility and to enable extension of its capabilities by the user. The primary goal of creating the program is to overcome the issue of data inundation from SHM …
