Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) may replace conventional vehicles in most urban areas and populated cities due to their lower levels of air pollution compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. PHEVs can increase the ability of residential complexes to participate in demand-side management, as well. This paper explores the potential of PHEVs as a flexible load in order to satisfy 2 main issues: increasing the penetration rate of renewable energy in a microgrid and increasing the load factor. In this study, 3 scenarios for managing PHEV charging and discharging are considered. The first scenario connects PHEVs to the grid …

The recent popularity of alternative energy technologies is mainly promoted by the increasing awareness of environmental concerns as well as the economic impacts of the depleting fossil fuel reserves. Among several alternative technologies, wind- and solar-based energy have been given specific importance with government-based support for providing a cost-effective structure to realize better penetration of such environmentally friendly sources in the energy market. Even these sources are advantageous over the conventional means of energy production from many aspects, a main drawback being the total dependence on the meteorological conditions (wind speed, solar radiation, temperature, etc.) of the wind and solar …

Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) as a solid waste in Crude Palm Oil (CPO) industry does not utilized yet as an alternative energy source to generate electricity. It is well known that use of solid wate (biomass) as an energy source is part of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) scheme due to direct reduction of Green House Gases (GHGs) emission and provide a direct contribution to sustainable development. Utilization of EFB as a source of energy is very potential to be implemented in Aceh since this province has 25 CPO Mills at the moment which actively produce about 870,000 ton EFB …

Fuzzy Logic Control For A Wind/Battery Renewable Energy Production System, Onur Özdal Mengi̇, İsmai̇l Hakki Altaş
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
In this study, a designed proportional-integral (PI) controller and a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) that fix the voltage amplitude to a constant value of 380 V and 50 Hz for loads supplied from a wind/battery hybrid energy system are explained and compared. The quality of the power produced by the wind turbine is affected by the continuous and unpredictable variations of the wind speed. Therefore, voltage-stabilizing controllers must be integrated into the system in order to keep the voltage magnitude and frequency constant at the load terminals, which requires constant voltage and frequency. A fuzzy logic-based controller to be used …

Wind turbines are becoming increasingly widespread in the United States as the world looks for cleaner sources of energy. Scientists, policymakers, and citizens have strong opinions regarding the positive and negative effects of wind energy projects, and there is a great deal of misinformation about wind energy circulating on the Web and other media sources. The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of how the rotation of hundreds of turbines can influence local weather conditions within a wind farm and in the surrounding areas. This experiment measures temperature, atmospheric pressure, wind speed, wind direction, relative humidity, …
