The Effects Of Shot Peening Highly Loaded Compression Springs, David J. Breuer Sep 2025

The Effects Of Shot Peening Highly Loaded Compression Springs, David J. Breuer

15th International Conference on Shot Peening

The compression spring in this test study is typical of one used in a demanding off-road vehicle suspension. The cyclic loads applied during fatigue tests were severe enough to cause failure in approximately 11,000 cycles without shot peening.

The objectives of this study were the following: (1) Design a compression spring similar to those used in the off-road recreational industry. (2) Design & manufacture a fatigue test stand that could withstand high loads for months of testing. (3) Generate a matrix of shot peening treatments to produce different amounts of residual compressive stress. (4) Measure the shot peening residual compressive …

3d Printing Of Short Fiber Reinforced Polypropylene: Novel Lattice Architucture And Material Characterization, Mohammad Ghazi Alshneeqat

Thesis/ Dissertation Defenses

This study explores the enhanced compressive behavior of 3D-printed single and double gyroid solid-networks lattices. Where the double gyroids are constructed from two intertwined single gyroid structures. These structures were designed by nTop implicit modeling tool and then fabricated by material extrusion additive manufacturing method at optimized printing parameters, including optimized nozzle temperature and raster angle. The main objective of this study is to reveal the compressive behavior of the novel double gyroid lattice structure and then to tailor its response through variable gyroid heights. Standard polymer tests were performed, considering thermogravimetric analysis, to confirm the thermal stability of the …

Implementing A 5-Dimensional Tabulated Conditional Moment Closure Model With Scalar Dissipation Rate For Scramjet Combustion, Alp Tuztas, Scott Montgomery Martin, Carlos A. Velez

Discovery Day - Daytona Beach

The growing interest in Scramjets for achieving sustained hypersonic flight has given rise to numerous computational models to obtain solutions as close as possible to experimental data, assisting with making the design process of modern Scramjet’s with different propellants and cavity designs less costly. However, Scramjet engines pose significant challenges for computational modelling due to the need of accounting for large- and small-scale turbulences but also solving turbulence chemistry interactions in compressible flow regimes. A promising approach has been through using high-fidelity turbulence-combustion models which greatly assist with capturing detailed chemistry, account for small scale turbulence and the complex flow …

Ac Electric Fields Manipulate And Concentrate Dna Molecules On Electrodes, Akila Wijesinghe, Dharmakeerthi Nawarathna

Graduate Student Government Association Research Conference

Point-of-care (POC) electric field-based biosensors have emerged as a promising tool to detect early cancer biomarkers such as circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), microRNA (miRNA), and proteins. To be effective in screening in clinical settings, these biosensors must be simple and easy to use. In this study, we have studied the manipulation of short DNA molecules suspended in a sessile drop to achieve this goal. Alternative current (AC) electric fields were used to polarize DNA molecules and produce dielectrophoretic (DEP) force on DNA molecules. DEP force is used to manipulate polarized DNA molecules towards the higher electric field gradients (toward the …
