Breast cancer is one of the foremost causes of death amongst women worldwide. Breast tumours are characteristically classified as either benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). Benign tumours do not spread external side of the breast and are not fatal, whereas malignant tumours can metastasize and be incurable if untreated. Rapidly and accurate diagnosis of malignant tumours is significant for efficient treatment and advanced outcomes. In 2022, breast cancer claimed 670 000 lives worldwide. While cancer impacts all segments of the United States population, specific groups experience a disproportionate burden of the disease due to social, environmental, and economic disadvantages. This research examines the correlation between socioeconomic factors and the accessibility of cancer clinical trials across U.S. counties, employing a comprehensive dataset, County-Level Socioeconomic and Cancer Clinical Trial Data from Noah Ripper, and advanced machine-learning techniques. Our findings, derived from regression analysis and machine learning models like gradient boosting, highlight significant disparities in trial availability linked to socioeconomic indicators, including poverty rates, population estimates, median income, incidence rates, and mortality rates. Commodity thermoplastic polymers provide good load transfer to and protection of the reinforcing fibers.  However, their mechanical properties are inferior to high-performance thermoplastic polymer composites.  Findings of preliminary research conducted at WSU showed that continuous fiber reinforced (CFR) commodity polymers such as PETG and PP have better Izod impact resistance than their high-performance CFR counterparts.  Further investigation of these findings is conducted in this research project.  Quasi-isotropic laminates of GF/PETG and GF/PET-am are fabricated and tested in drop weight impact.  The results will be compared with previously determined results of high-performance CF/PPS, CF/PA12 and GF/PPS.  The samples are fabricated using …

Low-velocity impact properties and residual compression strength after impact performance are used to evaluate composite materials for many applications. In this research, low-velocity drop-weight impact and compression after impact performance of four continuous fiber reinforcement thermoplastic (CFRTP) composites are investigated. Quasi-isotropic samples of GF/PP, CF-PA12, CF-PA6, GF-PA6 were fabricated and tested according to ASTM standards. Three energy levels of 10, 15, and 20 J/mm, were employed in this research. Results indicate that GF/PP exhibits the highest damage resistance and rebound-ability, evidenced by its minimal indentation and damage area, the highest significant damage threshold force, and the highest ratio of impact …

Aquaculture expansion necessitates innovative disease detection methods for sustainable production. This study investigates the efficacy of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) in classifying diseases affecting South Asian freshwater fish species. The dataset comprises 1747 images representing 7 class, healthy specimens and various diseases: bacterial, fungal, parasitic, and viral. The CNN architecture includes convolutional layers for feature extraction, max-pooling layers for down sampling, dense layers for classification, and dropout layers for regularization. Training employs categorical cross-entropy loss and the Adam optimizer over 30 epochs, monitoring both training and validation performance. AlAinSat-1 is a 3U remote-sensing CubeSat equipped with two Earth observation payloads and is scheduled for launch using SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket. To ensure the mission's success and its ability to endure the launch environment, several scenarios must be analyzed. Thermoplastic materials are becoming popular, due to their chemically inert and anti-fouling properties, for use in industrial heat exchanger applications involving heating/cooling of highly reactive fluids like acids. A novel nonconventional joining framework, based on the friction stir welding (FSW) technique, is developed to create high-quality thermoplastic tube-to-tubesheet joints (TTJs). The proposed technique has applications in the thermoplastic shell-andtube heat exchanger and piping industries (as flange-to-pipe joints). Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) is a process that transforms wet biomass into a mixture of aqueous phase (AP), biochar solids, biocrude oil, and biogas.

The HTL process is not economically viable on a large scale partially because the HTL-AP is a toxic waste product with no current use.

The HTL-AQ contains high amounts of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), but also environmental toxins such as phenolic compounds. The N and P could potentially be used to grow algae if it can survive the toxins.

Sandwich-structured composites are made of a lightweight core material between two thin composite panels. Variants of the Ori-Miura folding pattern have been investigated and compared to both the traditional Miura folding pattern (Fig. 1) and the more commonly used core design, the honeycomb. While the honeycomb design is favored over the Miura folding pattern and its variants due to its simple shape and better performance in compression, honeycomb cores also present drawbacks that are detrimental to the integrity of the sandwich structure.
