Magnetic nanostructures with desirable properties such as monodispersed size and crystallographic texturing can be fabricated by a number of synthetic techniques. In this paper, we discuss methods for creating nanoclusters with fine control of individual properties and their interactions, as well as a promising chemical technique that provides control of several properties simultaneously. Current and potential applications also will be addressed.

We contrast the interaction of mercury with adsorbed orthocarborane films and semiconducting (dehydrogenated) boron carbide. Photoemission spectra reveal small shifts in orthocarborane (C₂B₁₀H₁₂) molecular orbital binding energies as well as the shift in mercury 5d_5/2shallow core level binding energies, suggesting only small interaction between mercury and the molecular film. Mercury does, however, interact with decomposed orthocarboranes i.e. semiconducting boron carbide.

Negotiation is of critical importance in e-commerce applications where the supply chain is dynamic and reconfiguring. In this research supply chain negotiation problems are addressed as constraint-satisfaction problems. In general each negotiation is handled in the largest scope possible to avoid the suboptimality that can result from many local solutions. This global approach, however, must be balanced with time constraints that apply in e-commerce supply chain execution. In this paper, we describe a new approach for e-commerce supply chain negotiation via constraint evaluation. As well, results from prototype software, distributed across the internet, are discussed. The Energy Management and Control System (EMCS) used at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln (UNL) is unique in that system hardware and software has been developed primarily in-house. UNL has a successful track record with this approach stretching back more than twenty years.

This paper presents an industry experience report describing the high-level design and development of the latest version of this EMCS. This system is now being deployed on campus.

We discuss aspects of our EMCS that enhance usability, fault tolerance, and security. Our system is unique in that it was primarily developed using non-proprietary, opensource software building …

Although generation of correlated Rayleigh fading envelopes has been intensively considered in the literature, all conventional methods have their own shortcomings, which seriously impede their applicability. In this paper, a very general, straightforward algorithm for generation of an arbitrary number of Rayleigh envelopes with any desired, equal or unequal power, in wireless channels either with or without Doppler frequency shifts, is proposed. The proposed algorithm can be applied in case of spatial correlation, such as with antenna arrays in Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems, or spectral correlation between the random processes like in Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems. …

Convection heat transfer in pulsating turbulent flow with large velocity oscillating amplitudes in a pipe at constant wall temperature is numerically studied. A low-Reynolds-number (LRN) k–ε turbulent model is used in the turbulence modeling. The model analysis indicates that Womersley number is a very important parameter in the study of pulsating flow and heat transfer. Flow and heat transfer in a wide range of process parameters are investigated to reveal the velocity and temperature characteristics of the flow. The numerical calculation results show that in a pulsating turbulent flow there is an optimum Womersley number at which heat transfer is …
