The Design And Construction Of A Current Transformer, Henry A. Schmitz Jr., Jas. W. Murphy Jun 1915

The Design And Construction Of A Current Transformer, Henry A. Schmitz Jr., Jas. W. Murphy

Bachelors’ Theses

The transformer is a piece of apparatus used to transform alternating current power, from high voltage and low current to low voltage and high current or vice versa. It consists of a magnetic circuit of laminated iron linking two separate and distinct coils of wire. Alternating current is supplied to one of these coils, called the primary, and this alternating current causes rapid reversals of magnetic flux through the magnetic circuit, these reversals of flux induce an alternating electromotive force in the other coil, called the secondary, which delivers alternating current to a receiving circuit. The laminated iron which forms …

Design Of Three Span Reinforced Concrete Arched R.R. Viaduct, Joseph James Shabart Jun 1914

Design Of Three Span Reinforced Concrete Arched R.R. Viaduct, Joseph James Shabart

Bachelors’ Theses

Reinforced concrete either, as arch or girder spans, is being used not only in preference to steel trusses or steel girders, where the stone arch is too expensive to be considered, but the concrete bridge is frequently replacing the old steel structure.

A Study Of Induction Motors, Michael P. Valle Jun 1914

A Study Of Induction Motors, Michael P. Valle

Bachelors’ Theses

The induction rotor is tho most popular type of alternating current motor, and finds a wide field of application, Its action is based on the principle of the revolving magnetic field produced by alternating current displaced in phase relative to each other. At least two currents of different phase are necessary in order to produce a revolving field.

Testing Of The Racine Street Highway Bridge: City Of Milwaukee, Gardner P. Allen, Ernest Gomez Arzapalo Jun 1914

Testing Of The Racine Street Highway Bridge: City Of Milwaukee, Gardner P. Allen, Ernest Gomez Arzapalo

Bachelors’ Theses

The object of this test was to determine experimentally, the live load stresses in the main members of the Racine Street Bridge, and thus to ascertain whether or not the theoretical live and dead load stresses were greater or less than the theoretical dead load plus the actual live load stresses. If less, the bridge could not be considered safe for the traffic which it now carries. The dead load stresses in the various members were determined analytically, and to these were added the respective live load stresses obtained by this test, thus obtaining the total stress in the various …

A Study On Water Works For Irrigation, Joaquin Hermenegildo Hernandez Jun 1914

A Study On Water Works For Irrigation, Joaquin Hermenegildo Hernandez

Bachelors’ Theses

The large map set at the end of this thesis shows the boundary lines and general topography of the Hacienda de Guaname, a state owned by Don Mariano Hernandez Ceballos at the present day, situated in the high plateau of Mexico in the state of San Luis Potosi, about 75 Kilometers north of the capital of the state and to the west of the Mexican National R.R.. The extension of this property is over half a million acres but on account or the scarcity of rain fall during the Summer months, hardly any land is used for agriculture, the total …

The Chemical Constituents Of Cast Iron And Their Effect On Its Physical Properties, Frank H. Paatsch Jun 1914

The Chemical Constituents Of Cast Iron And Their Effect On Its Physical Properties, Frank H. Paatsch

Bachelors’ Theses

Carbon is an element of great importance and very - extensively diffused in nature. It exists in large quantities in the mineral kingdom and is the most abundant constituent of animal and vegetable matter. It assumes a greater number of aspects than any of the elements we deal with in connection with iron. In the crystallized state it constitutes the diamond and more or less pure, it forms the substance called plumbago, graphite, black-lead, anthracite and bituminous coal, coke, animal and vegetable charcoal.

A Test To Determine The Operating Efficiency Of A Steam Driven Electric Power Plant, Walter H. Rosemeyer, Edward Walter Kane Jun 1913

A Test To Determine The Operating Efficiency Of A Steam Driven Electric Power Plant, Walter H. Rosemeyer, Edward Walter Kane

Bachelors’ Theses

In this test it was desired to determine the amount of water evaporated per pound of coal, and the pounds of steam consumed by main engine per kilowatt-hour output. Because of the existing conditions the test was run on only one boiler but on account of the similiarity of construction the results on the other boilers were assumed to be practically the same. The coal used was Hocking Valley Screenings, abituminous coal, which, from tests conducted by the engineer to determine the fuel best suited to the conditions of the plant, was found to give the most economical results. Since …
