Osteochondral lesions, which affect both the cartilage and the bone, present significant challenges in treatment due to the complex mechanical and biochemical properties of these tissues. A crucial consideration in developing tissue replacements for these lesions is the simultaneous regeneration of cartilage and calcified cartilage, which forms the transition zone to bone. Our current study aims to fabricate a bilayer polymeric hydrogel designed not only to support cartilage regeneration but also to serve as an interface between cartilage and bone. The bilayer hydrogel was created by combining oxidized bacterial nanocellulose, gelatin, and alginate in one layer, while the other layer …

Controlling Titanium Incorporation In Hydrogenated Amorphous Carbon Films Via Closed-Loop Feedback In Reactive High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering, Pornthip Ratchayotee, Artit Chingsungnoen, Phitsanu Poolcharuansin
Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals
A closed-loop feedback approach has been developed to control titanium incorporation in hydrogenated amorphous carbon (a-C:H) films during reactive high-power impulse magnetron sputtering (R-HiPIMS). The average discharge current measured at the magnetron target is used as the primary feedback signal to regulate the target coverage state. Hence, the titanium concentration in the films can be controlled. Significant changes were observed in the film microstructure and properties as the target state evolved with increasing target coverage. This causes the film transition from metallic titanium to a-C:H films with decreasing titanium concentration. For example, the XRD and Raman analyses indicated a microstructural …

The disposal of vinasse, a nutrient-rich by-product of ethanol production, is challenging because of the low pH and emissions of harmful gases and smells. Here, biochars were produced by pyrolysis of mixtures of filter cake and vinasse (0.25 w/v to 1 w/v) at 550℃. The effects of filter cake to vinasse ratios on the biochar yield, pH, ash content, total nutrient (P, K, Ca, and Mg) content, and nutrient availability were investigated. Increasing the filter cake to vinasse ratio increased the biochar yield and ash content and lowered the biochar pH from 10.3 for 0.25-BC to 8.2 for filter cake …

The relationships between the properties and structure of xFe2O3-(40-x)K2O-10MoO3-50P2O5 glasses have been reported in this paper. Homogeneous glasses are formed for different Fe2O3 contents. The density and molar volume evolution of these glasses shows that Fe2O3 acts as a glass former and strengthens the structural bonds of the glass. Experimental 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy graphs suggest the existence of divalent Iron (FeII) and trivalent Iron (FeIII). The boost in chemical durability agrees with the growth in glass transition temperature due to more powerful bonding in the structural network. P-O-Fe bonds replace P-O-P bonds when Fe2O3 is present in the phosphate network.

First-Principles Study On Structural And Electronic Properties Of P3ht-Graphene, Fia Amalia, Ari Dwi Nugraheni, Sholihun Sholihun
Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals
Based on density functional theory, calculations have been carried out to study the structural and electronic properties of the polymer Poly (3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) interacting with monolayer graphene as an active layer. (P3HT)1-graphene and (P3HT)2-graphene are optimized on graphene using the generalized-gradient-approximation type of the exchange-correlation functional. Adsorption energy, band gap, and charge transfer are calculated. The calculated adsorption energy shows that all systems have negative adsorption energy, indicating that the reaction is exothermic. Compared to (P3HT)1-graphene, (P3HT)2-graphene has a lower band gap. As for the charge transfer calculation, a negative ΔN indicates that electron transfers from P3HT to graphene.

Adsorption Behavior And Mechanism Of Brilliant Green Dye Onto Acid-Modified Mesoporous Volcanic Pumice, Suchada Sawasdee, Prachart Watcharabundit
Applied Environmental Research
Water pollution is a major problem in the environment. The important one is the dying effluent from the textile industry. Dye effluent has affected human health and aquatic life. Recently, natural adsorbents have been most commonly used for dye treatment wastewater. This study explores the adsorption mechanism of brilliant green onto HCl-modified pumice. It involves a comparative analysis of the raw and HCl-modified pumice's characterization and adsorption properties. The adsorption experiments were carried out by considering several parameters, such as pH, contact time, initial dye concentrations, and temperatures. The research indicated that the raw and acid-treated pumice possess Si-OH and …
