Assessing The Implications Of A Tidal Barrage Power Plant In Hvalfjörður, Iceland, Olive M. Colangelo Oct 2019

Assessing The Implications Of A Tidal Barrage Power Plant In Hvalfjörður, Iceland, Olive M. Colangelo

Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection

As climate change continues to threaten the future state of our world, we are searching for measures to take for mitigation. Among these measures, the most talked about method is the development of renewable energies. Great amounts of attention is paid to solar and wind power, but relatively little effort is given to researching the possibilities of ocean energy, particularly tidal barrage energy. This study assesses the possibility of a tidal barrage plant in Hvalfjörður, Iceland. This hypothetical power plant in Hvalfjörður would have an installed capacity of 840MWh and could produce 613GWh per year. This is less than 0.01% …

Barriers And Opportunities To Electric Vehicle Development In Nepal, Allyson Krupa Oct 2019

Barriers And Opportunities To Electric Vehicle Development In Nepal, Allyson Krupa

Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection

As the global carbon dioxide level reaches its highest point in human history (407.4 parts per million), energy systems must transition from fossil fuel to renewable-powered sources. Since the transportation sector contributes nearly one-third of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, electric mobility offers a significant opportunity to reduce GHG emissions. Globally, there has been a rise in demand for electric vehicles. In Nepal, a clean energy transition within the context of rising urbanization and air pollution is imperative for quality of life, socio-economic development, and broadly climate change mitigation/adaptation. Furthermore, Nepal’s vast hydropower potential may increase energy independence and provide …

Modeling Social Learning: An Agent-Based Approach, Erika G. Ardiles Cruz Oct 2019

Modeling Social Learning: An Agent-Based Approach, Erika G. Ardiles Cruz

Computational Modeling & Simulation Engineering Theses & Dissertations

Learning is the process of acquiring or modifying knowledge, behavior, or skills. The ability to learn is inherent to humans, animals, and plants, and even machines are provided with algorithms that could mimic in a restricted way the processes of learning. Humans learn from the time they are born until they die because of a continuous process of interaction between them and their environment. Behavioral Psychology Theories and Social Learning Theories study behavior learned from the environment and social interactions through stimulus-response. Some computer approaches to modeling human behavior attempted to represent the learning and decision-making processes using agent-based models. …

Strategic Implications For The United States Of The Belt And Road Initiative In Africa, Alec Monnie Oct 2019

Strategic Implications For The United States Of The Belt And Road Initiative In Africa, Alec Monnie

Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection

The belt and road initiative is one of the most significant developments of the twenty-first century, which the United States will need to learn to adapt to. Much of the academic literature regarding the belt and road initiative mentions that Africa is a significant participant in this policy development, but fail to elaborate as to why that is, or what the implications for this are for the United States. This article expands upon the strategic significance of the African continent, and explains the implications thereof for the United States and China. This article argues that the belt and road initiative …

Privacidad Digital En Ecuador: El Papel De La Vigilancia, La Jurisprudencia Y Los Derechos Humanos, Giselle Valdez Oct 2019

Privacidad Digital En Ecuador: El Papel De La Vigilancia, La Jurisprudencia Y Los Derechos Humanos, Giselle Valdez

Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection

Fantasy Football As Sport And Game, Osvaldo Jimenez Sep 2019

Fantasy Football As Sport And Game, Osvaldo Jimenez

All Faculty Articles - School of Engineering and Computer Science

In an issue that aims to explore questions and the relationship between sports and games, I propose that looking at fantasy sports is an important angle from which to explore this relationship. The term fantasy sports can be a broad term if looked at as incorporating elements of fantasy into sport. For example, many of the most popular sporting games, like Madden (Visual Concepts Entertainment, Inc., 1993), already form a relationship between sports and game by using recent player data and incorporating that information into a game. One could argue that such a game already constitutes a fantasy sport. Nonetheless, …

Bibliometric Survey On Incremental Clustering Algorithms, Archana Chaudhari, Rahul Raghvendra Joshi, Preeti Mulay, Ketan Kotecha, Parag Kulkarni Sep 2019

Bibliometric Survey On Incremental Clustering Algorithms, Archana Chaudhari, Rahul Raghvendra Joshi, Preeti Mulay, Ketan Kotecha, Parag Kulkarni

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

For clustering accuracy, on influx of data, the parameter-free incremental clustering research is essential. The sole purpose of this bibliometric analysis is to understand the reach and utility of incremental clustering algorithms. This paper shows incremental clustering for time series dataset was first explored in 2000 and continued thereafter till date. This Bibliometric analysis is done using Scopus, Google Scholar, Research Gate, and the tools like Gephi, Table2Net, and GPS Visualizer etc. The survey revealed that maximum publications of incremental clustering algorithms are from conference and journals, affiliated to Computer Science, Chinese lead publications followed by India then United States. …
