The term, "insoluble residue," as used in this report is that portion of the original rock sample remaining after the sample has been digested by a mixture of one part hydrocloric acid and two parts water. A determination of the solubility of zinc ethyl xanthate was attempted by measuring the refractive index of a saturated solution of that salt. The small increment in refractive index effected by adding zinc ethyl xanthate to water in saturation quantities rendered measurements difficult and of dubious accuracy.

An electrodeposition of an iron-manganese alloy was made from the same conditions determined by previous research. Various addition agents were experimented with in an attempt to produce better conditions for electro-deposition. It was found advantageous to add small amounts of sodium lauryl sulfate and ammonium sulfite to the electrolyte.
