New Methods In Wavelet Analysis For Applications Of The Wavelet Transform, Jeffrey D. Williams Sep 2021

New Methods In Wavelet Analysis For Applications Of The Wavelet Transform, Jeffrey D. Williams

Theses and Dissertations

A commonality in the many applications and domains where signal processing (SP)is applied is the detection of events. Detection in SP requires the identification of the occurrence of an event, within a signal, and distinguishing the occurrence from no event. In a classical application of SP, seismologists seek to detect abnormalities in an electromagnetic (EM) signal to detect or not detect the occurrence of an earthquake, represented as an anomalous EM pulse. Since many signals are noisy, such as those produced by a seismograph, it can be challenging to distinguish a significant EM pulse from incident noise. In SP, smoothing …

Measurement Error Correction Model Of Tof Depth Camera, Le Wang, Luo Yu, Haikuan Wang, Minru Fei

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: 3D data intuitively reflects the full view of the target or scene. Time of Flight (ToF) camera is a range imaging sensor that can provide 3D geometric information of targets immediately, thus it is widely applied in the robot positioning and navigation, 3D reconstruction and other aspects etc. Due to the operational principle of the camera itself, there are variety measurement errors of the source data obtained by ToF, resulting in image distortion. The measurement errors in the imaging process of ToF camera were analyzed and summarized, and the cubic spline interpolation method combined with look-up table was proposed …

Vehicle Logo Recognition Based On Sparse Sampling And Gradient Distribution Features, Binbin Zhou, Shangbing Gao, Zhigeng Pan, Liangliang Wang, Hongyang Wang

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: The vehicle logo location and recognition are separated in the traditional method, the location errors will affect the subsequent recognition, at the same time the vehicle logo images are with low resolution and poor quality. Thus, a novel method was proposed which integrated the vehicle logo location and recognition organically. The sample images were sampled by sparse sampling, and then the point set was divided into adjacent point set and non adjacent point set, and the gradient feature and light and dark feature were extracted respectively, constructing the feature library. The logo coarse location area was multi-scale scanned. The …

Face Recognition Via Ensemble Sift Matching Of Uncorrelated Hyperspectral Bands And Spectral Pcts, Mohd Fairul Mohd-Zaid Jun 2011

Face Recognition Via Ensemble Sift Matching Of Uncorrelated Hyperspectral Bands And Spectral Pcts, Mohd Fairul Mohd-Zaid

Theses and Dissertations

Face recognition is not a new area of study, but facial recognition using through hyperspectral images is a somewhat new concept which is still in its infancy. Although the conventional method of face recognition using Red-Green-Blue (RGB) or grayscale images has been advanced over the last twenty years, these methods are still shown to have weak performance whenever there are variations or changes in lighting, pose, or temporal aspect of the subjects. A hyperspectral representation of an image captures more information that is available within a scene than a RGB image therefore it is beneficial to study the performance of …

Improved Feature Extraction, Feature Selection, And Identification Techniques That Create A Fast Unsupervised Hyperspectral Target Detection Algorithm, Robert J. Johnson

Theses and Dissertations

This research extends the emerging field of hyperspectral image (HSI) target detectors that assume a global linear mixture model (LMM) of HSI and employ independent component analysis (ICA) to unmix HSI images. Via new techniques to fully automate feature extraction, feature selection, and target pixel identification, an autonomous global anomaly detector, AutoGAD, has been developed for potential employment in an operational environment for real-time processing of HSI targets. For dimensionality reduction (initial feature extraction prior to ICA), a geometric solution that effectively approximates the number of distinct spectral signals is presented. The solution is based on the theory of the …

Improved Hyperspectral Image Testing Using Synthetic Imagery And Factorial Designed Experiments, Joseph P. Bellucci Mar 2007

Improved Hyperspectral Image Testing Using Synthetic Imagery And Factorial Designed Experiments, Joseph P. Bellucci

Theses and Dissertations

The goal of any remote sensing system is to gather data about the geography it is imaging. In order to gain knowledge of the earth's landscape, post-processing algorithms are developed to extract information from the collected data. The algorithms can be intended to classify the various ground covers in a scene, identify specific targets of interest, or detect anomalies in an image. After the design of an algorithm comes the difficult task of testing and evaluating its performance. Traditionally, algorithms are tested using sets of extensively ground truthed test images. However, the lack of well characterized test data sets and …
