Some Dynamic Creep Characteristics Of Gypsum, Ikram-Ul-Haq Dar
Some Dynamic Creep Characteristics Of Gypsum, Ikram-Ul-Haq Dar
Masters Theses
"A review of literature concerned with time-dependent deformation of geologic and non-geologic materials is presented. A static loading machine and a four unit dynamic loading unit was designed and assembled to evaluate static and dynamic creep properties of gypsum. The tests were run for various levels of static loads, and superimposed dynamic loads. Investigations were carried out to determine the relationships, if any, between impact energy, impact velocity and momentum, and dynamic strains. Viscoelastic coefficients were determined for the investigations. The conclusion was presented that time-dependent strain in the dynamic creep tests of the particular gypsum rock tested is a …
Methods For Calculating The Minimum Amortization Tonnage And Maximum Present Value For An Ore Body, Garrett M. Sainsbury
Methods For Calculating The Minimum Amortization Tonnage And Maximum Present Value For An Ore Body, Garrett M. Sainsbury
Masters Theses
"The discussion is divided into three parts. Part I describes a procedure for determining the mining rate that gives the minimum amortization tonnage required of an ore body, and the amount of that tonnage. The basic idea is that amortization tonnage is equivalent to the estimated capital costs, including interest, divided by the estimated operating profit per ton. Both capital costs and operating profit per ton can be expressed as functions of mining rate by making use of empirical equations. Therefore, amortization tonnage can be expressed as a function of mining rate. The amortization tonnage is calculated for a series …

Electrical Model Investigations Using The Horizontal Profiling Technique, Alan H. Kwentus
Electrical Model Investigations Using The Horizontal Profiling Technique, Alan H. Kwentus
Masters Theses
"Electrical exploration methods have been used for many years as a means of determining subsurface structures and in the search for mineral deposits. Vertical profiling techniques can be used to determine rather accurately the resistivity and thichness of horizontal or gently dipping beds for cases up to four layers. Mathematical calculations have been made for multiple layers and theoretical curves have been computed and published for four and more layers. The vertical profiling method is not particularly well suited to the problem of locating lateral changes in resistivity produced by such features as ore bodies, sinks and channels. These features …

Some Physical, Chemical, And Thermohydrodynamic Parameters Of Explosive Ammonium Nitrate-Fuel Oil Mixtures, Joseph J. Yancik
Some Physical, Chemical, And Thermohydrodynamic Parameters Of Explosive Ammonium Nitrate-Fuel Oil Mixtures, Joseph J. Yancik
Doctoral Dissertations
"The explosive properties of ammonium nitrate-fuel blasting agents were investigated by measuring their detonation velocity and sensitivity. Detonation velocity was measured by a pin oscillograph method with a modified pin technique. Five types of tests were used to evaluate the explosive sensitivity of AN-fuel mixtures under varied environmental conditions. These tests measured the confined and unconfined critical diameter, minimum primer for a three inch diameter iron pipe confined charge, for an unconfined charge at the critical diameter, and minimum primacord primer under special conditions.
Properties of ammonium nitrate-fuel blasting agents were evaluated by considering the effects which each component of …

Graphical Solution Of Concentration At Production Wells Of Injected Radioactive Water Tracers, George E. Vaughn Jr.
Graphical Solution Of Concentration At Production Wells Of Injected Radioactive Water Tracers, George E. Vaughn Jr.
Masters Theses
"With the advent of field research in which radioactive isotopes are used as tracers for water injected in secondary-recovery operations, knowledge of the probable transit time between wells of an injected tracer, its concentration at detection points, and the resultant optimum injection concentration has become important. Both detection and, consequently, injection concentrations of radioactive tracers are at least in part functions of the loss of tracer for various reasons, flow characteristics between wells, the rate of decay of radioactive emission, and the sensitivity of the detection apparatus. A method, based on the characteristics of a homogeneous 5-spot system, has been …

A Preliminary Investigation Of Natural Gas Combustion As Applied To Thermal Recovery Of Petroleum, Roger J. Schoeppel
A Preliminary Investigation Of Natural Gas Combustion As Applied To Thermal Recovery Of Petroleum, Roger J. Schoeppel
Masters Theses
"Present application of the subsurface combustion processes in the thermal recovery of petroleum afford favorable and opportune methods of providing greater recoveries from petroleum reservoirs. This study attempts to elucidate some of the parameters controlling the complex hydrocarbon oxidation for one such process. The experimental phase consisted of investigating the combustion behavior of eight nonexplosive and one explosive natural gas-air mixtures at low and intermediate pressures. The hydrocarbon was allowed to oxidize by self-ignition under controlled conditions within environments precluding a visible flame type reaction. Progress of the reaction was followed by measuring effluent oxygen content.
Experimental evidence indicate the …
A Comparison Of The Effect Of Pvt Data Application Methods On Predicted Depletion Drive Reservoir Performance, Frederick A. Klein
A Comparison Of The Effect Of Pvt Data Application Methods On Predicted Depletion Drive Reservoir Performance, Frederick A. Klein
Masters Theses
"It is generally agreed that the evolution of gas from oil within a reservoir is most closely approximated by the differential liberation process, while gas liberation in the flow string, surface separator, and stock tank is most nearly represented by flash liberation. To conform with this assumed physical behavior, appropriate application of both flash and differential liberation data in the computation of reservoir performance by material balance methods is indicated.
In this work, simple depletion-drive oil and gas recoveries were calculated (1) using differential liberation data only, and (2) using differential liberation data adjusted to incorporate the results of flash …

Rheological Measurement Of A Starch Suspension As A Dilatant Fluid, Earl Edward Pape
Rheological Measurement Of A Starch Suspension As A Dilatant Fluid, Earl Edward Pape
Masters Theses
"The measurement of the rheological properties, consistency of viscosity and fluid type, necessary for system design calculations, has fallen behind the industrial applications for non-Newtonian fluids. In the petroleum industry in particular, the process of well flow stimulation known as Hydraulic Fracturing utilizes the properties of various non-Newtonian fluids to carry sand at high flow rates to the formation to be fractured. Other non-Newtonian fluids in the petroleum industry are Bentonite clay drilling fluids, whose unique gelling properties are helpful in suspending drill cuttings when the circulation of the fluid has ceased. In Newtonian liquids and gases the consistency is …
A Preliminary Investigation Of Strains And Fracturing In Small Hydro-Stone Beams Due To Impact Loading, Niels B. Haubold
A Preliminary Investigation Of Strains And Fracturing In Small Hydro-Stone Beams Due To Impact Loading, Niels B. Haubold
Masters Theses
"Every structure has a fundamental frequency which is sometimes referred to as its first natural frequency. If a periodic force acts on the structure whose frequency is equal to that of the natural frequency of the structure, a vibration is set up whose amplitude would approach infinity if it were not for the presence of damping. Since damping is always present, steady state conditions will finally be reached provided that the applied force is not so great that it will cause the structure to fail. The amplitude of the vibration will be a function of the applied force and the …
Analysis Of Mining Mechanization In The Fluorspar Mine, Southern Illinois, Marangin Simatupang
Analysis Of Mining Mechanization In The Fluorspar Mine, Southern Illinois, Marangin Simatupang
Masters Theses
"The purpose of this study is to analyze the underground mechanization in the fluorspar mines in Southern Illinois. The mining mechanization in this district is confronted with manifold problems which are typical of most small or medium size mines.
The ore reserve in each mine is not very large. The method of development had to be planned accordingly such as not to exceed the depreciative capacity of the deposit.
The ore bodies consist of thin bedded layers or small veins. This thickness controls the sizes of the equipment to be used.
The mining operations always lack skilled equipment operators. In …
The Development Of A Device To Replace The Oil Well Dynamometer, Jerry Bernard Overton
The Development Of A Device To Replace The Oil Well Dynamometer, Jerry Bernard Overton
Masters Theses
"The mechanical dynamometer is recognized as being a valuable tool in measuring resultant forces acting on the polished rod of an oil well pump. The dynamometer is used extensively to determine loads, torque, and horsepower. "It is also used to determine pump action and trouble-shoot for any seemingly abnormal pumping condition."
Although it is desirous to periodically make dynamometer studies, it is also very time consuming. Because of high labor costs, it has been almost discontinued by many companies. The author became convinced that a less costly method of obtaining the same information could be developed. This method was the …

Performance Parameters Of Low-Density Ammonium Nitrate Base Explosives; Experimental Results And J. Taylor's Method, Mohammad Azhari Warga-Dalem
Masters Theses
"Ammonium nitrate has been known to the explosive industry for a long time. Compelled by the ever increasing mining costs, in 1954 "Akremite" was introduced to the market. It is a simple carbonaceous ammonium nitrate mixture and is the cheapest explosive available to the open-pit operators.
During the following years considerable amount of research was done, resulting among others with the introduction of ammonium nitrate-hydrocarbon mixtures as an explosive. During the Second World War research was done toward the refinement of the hydrodynamic theory. Several methods of calculating the detonation velocities of the explosives were introduced: Brown (1942), Kistiakowski and …
A Statistical Approach To The Zonation Of A Petroleum Reservoir, Leroy Allan Beghtol
A Statistical Approach To The Zonation Of A Petroleum Reservoir, Leroy Allan Beghtol
Masters Theses
"The problem of dividing a reservoir into distinct permeability zones, in order to predict fluid flow and thereby the production history of the field, has long troubled the petroleum engineer. As a solution to this problem a new statistical method for zoning a reservoir was developed, using a modification of the analysis of variance technique. The application of the statistical zonation procedure to permeability data obtained from eight closely spaced wells substantiated the validity and effectiveness of the new method in determining distinct permeability zones"--Abstract, page iii.

Design Of A Portable Headframe, Rodney C. Foster
Design Of A Portable Headframe, Rodney C. Foster
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
Present day methods of ore exploration consists of surface geology, geophysical methods and drilling datum. These methods have all produced results, but, the sure way of telling whether ore is present is to look at it in place, determine it's tonnage, grade and ease of mining. This can only be done by the use of a headframe to sink a shaft. Therefore a low cost, well designed and easily constructed headframe would be a great aid to underground exploration work. For this reason the report is devoted to the design of a portable headframe to be used in preliminary ore …
