Mathematical Modeling Of The Dispersion Of Air Pollutants From Highways, Wesley P. Bauver
Mathematical Modeling Of The Dispersion Of Air Pollutants From Highways, Wesley P. Bauver
Wind Energy Center Masters Theses Collection
This work discusses the theory of the HIWAY and California Line Source highway air pollution dispersion models and describes the EPA emissions model which is used to provide emission factors for these models. A parametric study of the dispersion models is performed to show the effect of the various inputs to these models on predicted pollutant concentrations. These results indicate certain cases in which one model should be used instead of the other. These models are used to perform air quality, environmental impact assessments of two highway projects in Massachusetts. Mesoscale Analyses are also performed for these highways. Advances in …

Microprocessor Based Control System For The Umass Wind Furnace I, Daniel Handman, Richard Monopoli
Wind Energy Center Reports
To maximize the efficiency of the UMass Wind Furnace I, a microprocessor based control system has been designed. The system can control blade pitch angle, yaw direction, and generator field current. The control scheme for the system is determined by the microprocessor program. Therefore, this control system can also be used to simulate various types of mechanical, electro-mechanical, electronic, and hydraulic controllers by writing an appropriate control program.

Wind Turbine Blade Stress Analysis And Natural Frequencies, F. W. Perkins, Duane E. Cromack
Wind Energy Center Reports
There are many problems to be addressed with respect to the design o f wind turbine blades. Foremost among these are aerodynamic performance, structural integrity and cost. The subject of aerodynamic performance, at least in the steady state condition, has been dealt with at some length by various investigators. The cost of a blade system is beyond the scope of this paper. The structural integrity o f wind turbine blades must be insured in both the static and dynamic load cases. The critical static load has been determined to be a hurricane wind perpendicular t o the blade planform. The …

A Preliminary Investigation Of Three Advanced Wind Furnace Systems For Residential And Farm Applications: Executive Summary, Paul. H. Sarkisian, John G. Mcgowan
Wind Energy Center Reports
This report summarizes the results of an analytical performance and economic evaluation of three advanced wind furnace heating systems. The work represents an extension of previous work on wind powered heating systems and extends this wind energy application to the supply of electricity as well as space and hot water energy loads for rural residences and farms. Details of the proposed systems and the analytical modeling of the overall system and subcomponents are presented as well as typical system energy and economic performance.

A Preliminary Investigation Of Three Advanced Wind Energy Systems For Residential And Farm Applications, Paul. H. Sarkisian, John G. Mcgowan
Wind Energy Center Reports
This report is primarily concerned with an analysis of advanced wind driven energy systems. Three such systems, the Improved Wind Furnace System and the Wind Driven Total Energy Systems, Types I and II, for the supply of energy to electrical, space heating and domestic hot water loads are considered for new England residential and farm applications. These systems are studied with the aid of an interactive digital computer simulation (WDTEST) and an economics program (WSDECO). Although the programs incorporate some idealizations, they represent a necessary preliminary investigation of the total system and its components. The computer models are designed to …
Wind Turbine Design, Performance, And Economic Analysis, James H. Sexton
Wind Turbine Design, Performance, And Economic Analysis, James H. Sexton
Wind Energy Center Reports
This paper is an investigation of the economic feasibility of small scale (1 to 70 kw) wind energy conversion systems (WECS). It can be shown that the wind system productivity and therefore the relative cost of the product which it produces is completely dependent on the wind regime under consideration. The mean wind speed, standard deviation, and wind profile are the most significant parameters to be used in the investigation of cost of product from a wind system. The purpose of this work is not to find an optimum wind system, but to give the reader enough information to make …
