Impacts Of Power System-Tied Distributed Generation On The Performance Of Protection Systems, Terver T. Maor Dec 2017

Impacts Of Power System-Tied Distributed Generation On The Performance Of Protection Systems, Terver T. Maor

Electrical Engineering Theses

The dispersed integration of smaller power units in the existing utility grid is the new trend. This is largely due to changes in the power generation and distribution markets. The combination of rising cost of new construction, deregulations and improved newer power equipment technologies suitable for deferred expansions make the new trend very attractive to power companies and independent investors. Until recently, other contributions to power distribution systems from such sources as standby units were considered negligible and therefore unaccounted for during the design and operation of power systems. This view has drastically changed, largely due to the increasing penetration …

Bit-Rate Reduction Using Superpixel For 360-Degree Videos - Vr Application, Swaroop Krishna Rao

Electrical Engineering Theses

Superpixels are applied on the side views of the 2D projected video. Then the video is partitioned into Coding Tree Units (CTUs). The CTUs and the superpixels positions will be compared within the frame of video. During comparison, the following cases will be considered: Case-1: If two or more CTUs are covered by the same superpixel, then the CTUs will be merged into one large coding tree unit. This merged CTU will be called as Intra CTU. Case-2: If one CTU is covered by two or more superpixels, then it will be referred to as Boundary CTU. After finding the …

A Supervised Approach For Training Gaussian Mixture Model Classifiers, Vineet Dilip Gundecha Aug 2017

A Supervised Approach For Training Gaussian Mixture Model Classifiers, Vineet Dilip Gundecha

Electrical Engineering Theses

A new method for training Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) classifiers is presented. First, an objective function is defined in terms of the number of clusters, K, per class, the mean vectors, the inverse covariance matrices for each class, and the prior probabilities for each class. For each increment in K, gradients of the objective function improve upon the prior probabilities, mean vectors, and inverse covariance matrices. Improvement in accuracy for different data-sets are shown and results are compared with the EM algorithm.

An Exact Analysis For Four-Order Acousto-Optic Bragg Diffraction Which Incorporates Both Incident Light Angle And Sound Frequency Dependencies, Adeyinka Sunday Ademola

Electrical Engineering Theses

This thesis extends the prior work which produced an exact solution to the four-order acousto-optic (AO) Bragg cell with assumed fixed center frequency and with exact Bragg angle incident light. The extension predicts the model that incorporates the dependencies of both the input angle of light and the sound frequency. Specifically, a generalized 4th order linear differential equation (DE), is developed from a simultaneous analysis of four coupled AO system of DEs. Through standard methods, the characteristic roots, which requires solving a quartic equation, is produced. Subsequently, a derived system of homogeneous solutions, which absorbs the roots obtained using …
