Stability Analysis Of Systems With Time Delay Simulation Program, Matthew Carroll, Brandon Replogle Jun 2020

Stability Analysis Of Systems With Time Delay Simulation Program, Matthew Carroll, Brandon Replogle

Electrical Engineering

A small company wants to develop a CAD tool, ideally as part of the MATLAB suite of tools, for system stability analysis of nonlinear control systems with time-delay. The program must allow the designer to input the system block diagram graphically, then using symbolic expansion, automatically generate the Laplace domain stability boundary and disturbance settling time. The stable regions are then to be graphically plotted as a set of 2- or 3-dimensional parametric stability boundaries. The designer can then input performance constraints on the system through the MATLAB console and a Simulink environment will automatically be generated.

This program is …

Single Axis Solar Panel Tracking Mount Using Stepper Motor And Accelerometer Positional Control, Ezra Pramono Jun 2020

Single Axis Solar Panel Tracking Mount Using Stepper Motor And Accelerometer Positional Control, Ezra Pramono

Electrical Engineering

Optimal solar panel systems rotate to track the sun, as solar panels operate at their maximum potential when the panel plane is completely normal to the sun’s rays. These tracking systems often using two axes of movement. This project is to design a system that will allow a solar panel to track the sun using only one rotational axis, which saves energy and uses fewer parts. The system tracks the entire range of the sun's motion and has positional feedback to allow control of the solar panel's angle. The position of the tracking system is controllable via an external computer. …

Acceleration Amplitude Control System For Oscillating Silicon Oil Physics Experiment, Eric Chen Jun 2017

Acceleration Amplitude Control System For Oscillating Silicon Oil Physics Experiment, Eric Chen

Electrical Engineering

This project is an ‘acceleration amplitude control system’ for use in an ‘oscillating silicon oil physics experiment’. The physics experiment has a tray of silicon oil. This tray must oscillate vertically at a specific amplitude (either at or just below the level for Faraday Waves). This control systems manages taking measurements of acceleration amplitude, and also manages correcting the shaker’s driving signal to obtain the correct acceleration. Features of the control system are designed for ease of use, because the system will mostly be operated by professor/ students without background knowledge in electrical engineering.

Implementing Occupancy Sensor Lighting Controls In Cal Poly Cic Lab Classrooms, Mitchell Packard Mar 2017

Implementing Occupancy Sensor Lighting Controls In Cal Poly Cic Lab Classrooms, Mitchell Packard

Construction Management

Occupancy sensors are lighting control devices that automatically turn lights on when they detect motion, and off when motion is not detected for an allotted time period. These sensors can be applied virtually anywhere, indoor or outdoor, and can provide substantial energy savings. One application that does not utilize occupancy sensors often enough is classrooms. Cal Poly currently utilizes an outdated toggle switch system that students do not maintain properly, wasting a large quantity of energy. This paper will examine the maintaining of the current lighting control system in Cal Poly’s Construction Innovation Center (CIC) lab classrooms; the operating cost …

Magnetic Bearing For Bently Nevada Rk4 Rotor Kits, Sean Fowler, Garrett Olson Jun 2016

Magnetic Bearing For Bently Nevada Rk4 Rotor Kits, Sean Fowler, Garrett Olson

Mechanical Engineering

Active Magnetic Bearings (AMB) are contact free bearings that support loads by magnetic levitation. This is accomplished by generating magnetic forces with electric current through a series of electromagnets surrounding a suspended rotor mass. Along with a set of electromagnets, an AMB assembly also consists of power amplifiers for each electromagnet, a controller, and proximity sensors. The proximity sensors provide rotor position feedback to the control system, which modulates power to the amplifiers [4]. Magnetic bearings are used in several industrial applications today, including but not limited to compressors, turbines, pumps, motors, and generators. Advantages of their utility include very …

Telepresence: Design, Implementation And Study Of An Hmd-Controlled Avatar With A Mechatronic Approach, Darren Michael Chan Jun 2015

Telepresence: Design, Implementation And Study Of An Hmd-Controlled Avatar With A Mechatronic Approach, Darren Michael Chan

Master's Theses

Telepresence describes technologies that allow users to remotely experience the sensation of being present at an event without being physically present. An avatar exists to represent the user whilst in a remote location and is tasked to collect stimuli from its immediate surroundings to be delivered to the user for consumption. With the advent of recent developments in Virtual Reality technology, viz., head-mounted displays (HMDs), new possibilities have been enabled in the field of Telepresence. The main focus of this thesis is to develop a solution for visual Telepresence, where an HMD is used to control the direction of a …
