Creating A Software Marketplace For The Sme Community In The Irish Construction Industry, Alan V. Hore, Roger West, Alan Redmond
Creating A Software Marketplace For The Sme Community In The Irish Construction Industry, Alan V. Hore, Roger West, Alan Redmond
Conference papers
The Construction Industry is a sector where Information Communication Technology (ICT) and e-Business are used to a lesser extent than in most other sectors. The high concentration of Small to Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) in the industry and the typical nature of the service provided, being an on-site and often highly customised service are generally identified as the reason for the low ICT uptake. The majority of Irish companies in the construction sector are SMEs. E-Business has provided the construction SME industry the opportunity to compete globally. The Construction IT Alliance (CITA) has identified a programme that can create a …
Barriers To Innovation In Public-Private Partnership (Ppp), Louis Gunnigan, David Eaton
Barriers To Innovation In Public-Private Partnership (Ppp), Louis Gunnigan, David Eaton
Conference papers
This paper sets out to identify barriers to greater use of innovation in PPP projects. Using a series of in-depth interviews with participants on two closely related PPP projects, data were gathered and analysed to compare the success of the projects in relation to innovation. The views of the participants relating to the approach to innovation were recorded and were examined relative to the views on innovation expressed in published documentation relating to these projects. The research showed that two different types of innovation could be identified – namely cost reducing innovation and product enhancing innovation. It also showed that, …
Training Module In Regional And Municipal Governance Of Public Private Partnerships, Louis Gunnigan
Training Module In Regional And Municipal Governance Of Public Private Partnerships, Louis Gunnigan
Conference papers
This module concentrates on the issues important to those who will be setting up PPPs and who are involved in government at a regional or municipal level.
The module is centred on five tasks, namely:
- How to identify PPP opportunities and to find the best private sector partners for a PPP;
- How to organize a PPP programme within a government by enhancing cooperation amongst the relevant departments and ministries, local, regional and national authorities;
- How to be an effective manager and leader in a dynamic PPP unit;
- How to engage public support for PPPs;
- How to use international instruments to …
Plasma Arc Torch Technology Stabilization And Ground Improvement, Purdue Ect Team
Plasma Arc Torch Technology Stabilization And Ground Improvement, Purdue Ect Team
ECT Fact Sheets Archive
This technology represents an additional alternative for stabilizing weak foundation soils upon which buildings, bridges, roads or other structures are to be constructed. A plasma is a gas that has been ionized by the electric arc of a plasma torch and can therefore respond to electrical and magnetic fields. Plasma arc technology can create plasma using almost any type of gas (oxygen, nitrogen, carbon monoxide, air, etc.) and in a wide range of pressures (vacuum to 20 atmospheres).
Increasing Effectiveness Of Public Private Partnerships In The Irish Construction Industry, Louis Gunnigan
Increasing Effectiveness Of Public Private Partnerships In The Irish Construction Industry, Louis Gunnigan
Doctoral
By 2003 the first Irish Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects had reached the operational stage. Media reports were emerging of significant differences in the effectiveness of these projects.
This research set out to find a means by which effectiveness of PPPs could be increased and to develop a model that would assist PPP practitioners with this task in the future. Through a literature review, the Irish PPP process was mapped, the changes encountered in the introduction of PPP were investigated and a conceptual model – based on a traditional process model - was proposed. The model was tested by examining …

An Evaluation Of Contingency Construction Methods Using Value Focused Thinking, John E. Tyron
An Evaluation Of Contingency Construction Methods Using Value Focused Thinking, John E. Tyron
Theses and Dissertations
Rapid Engineering Deployable, Heavy Operational Repair Squadron, Engineer (RED HORSE) Squadrons are 400-person, self-contained, combat engineer units that provide deployable and flexible expert construction capability for the United States Air Force. To help meet Air Force mission requirements, RED HORSE units currently employ a variety of traditional and innovative construction methods. But their alternatives-focused decision analysis approach to method selection limits their decision to known alternatives and may not fully achieve all of their objectives. This research developed a generic value-focused thinking (VFT) decision analysis model to help RED HORSE evaluate and select contingency construction methods. Eight alternatives were generated …
Innovative Contracting Prequalification/Selection Model Using Analytical Hierarchy Process (Ahp), Saad J. Zidan
Innovative Contracting Prequalification/Selection Model Using Analytical Hierarchy Process (Ahp), Saad J. Zidan
Masters Theses
Design-Build, Cost-Plus-Time, and warranty are the three innovative contracting methods that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) decided to fund. FHWA allowed the usage of these methods in federally funded projects if this will result in reducing time, improving quality, and saving tax payers' money. Prequalification is recognized as the best way of assuring that contractors do have the required qualifications to deliver projects successfully. Prequalification is even more critical when low-bid selection method is used with any of the innovative contracting, since incompetent contractors may get awarded for low-bids that are not based on valid assumptions.

Maintenance Conditions And Occupant Behavior In Government Provided Housing In Lagos, Nigeria, Paul Abayomi Bajere
Maintenance Conditions And Occupant Behavior In Government Provided Housing In Lagos, Nigeria, Paul Abayomi Bajere
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
Maintenance conditions and occupant behavior towards maintenance in government housing in developing countries are universal problems. Perceptions, construction technology, competencies, tenureship, cultural tradition, and demographic factors have been identified as major constraints influencing housing maintenance behavior. There was a need for this study because limited literature exists on maintenance of urban government provided housing in Nigeria. Also, the degree of success of the government's efforts concerning environmental cleaning has not been remarkable.
The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the maintenance of government provided housing, as perceived by the residents and observed by the researcher, to determine the …
