Multiple Robot Boundary Tracking With Phase And Workload Balancing, Michael Jay Boardman Jun 2010

Multiple Robot Boundary Tracking With Phase And Workload Balancing, Michael Jay Boardman

Master's Theses

This thesis discusses the use of a cooperative multiple robot system as applied to distributed tracking and sampling of a boundary edge. Within this system the boundary edge is partitioned into subsegments, each allocated to a particular robot such that workload is balanced across the robots. Also, to minimize the time between sampling local areas of the boundary edge, it is desirable to minimize the difference between each robot’s progression (i.e. phase) along its allocated sub segment of the edge. The paper introduces a new distributed controller that handles both workload and phase balancing. Simulation results are used to illustrate …

The Future Of Digital Rights Management In Digital Video, Matthew Elcock Jun 2010

The Future Of Digital Rights Management In Digital Video, Matthew Elcock

Technical Reports

The rise in the popularity of internet-based digital video has created a major revolution in the way consumers acquire content. Users no longer need to watch a television show live or obtain a physical disc in order to view a movie. However, this transition comes with a price: Digital Rights Management (DRM). Every digital video file requires a user to be locked into a particular combination of software, hardware, and business plan in order to be authorized for viewing purchased content. DRM was just as prevalent during the introduction of digital audio, but DRM was abolished from the format within …

Use Of Machine Learning Classification Techniques To Detect Atypical Behavior In Medical Applications, Terrence Ziemniak Jun 2010

Use Of Machine Learning Classification Techniques To Detect Atypical Behavior In Medical Applications, Terrence Ziemniak

Technical Reports

Health care informatics is growing at an incredible pace. Originally health care organizations, like all other industries, used pen and paper to track medical information. Ten years ago the more mature health care organizations had simply practice management applications. Today these organizations have full blown electronic health records systems. Tomorrow these organizations will be sharing information across the globe.

Physicians (and the sponsoring organizations) are obligated to protect this data. Health care has followed the trend of many other industries in implementing technologies and processes to address certain risks. Encryption is enabled to ensure confidentiality. Business continuity techniques are applied …

Measuring Atmospheric Scattering From Digital Images Of Urban Scenery Using Temporal Polarization-Based Vision, Tarek El-Gaaly Jun 2010

Measuring Atmospheric Scattering From Digital Images Of Urban Scenery Using Temporal Polarization-Based Vision, Tarek El-Gaaly

Archived Theses and Dissertations

Suspended atmospheric particles (particulate matter) are a form of air pollution that visually degrades urban scenery and is hazardous to human health and the environment. Current environmental monitoring devices are limited in their capability of measuring average particulate matter (PM) over large areas. Quantifying the visual effects of haze in digital images of urban scenery and correlating these effects to PM levels is a vital step in more practically monitoring our environment. Current image haze extraction algorithms remove all the haze from the scene and hence produce unnatural scenes for the sole purpose of enhancing vision. We present two algorithms …

An Extended Configurable Uml Activity Diagram And A Transformation Algorithm For Business Process Reference Modeling, Yosra Osama Badr Jun 2010

An Extended Configurable Uml Activity Diagram And A Transformation Algorithm For Business Process Reference Modeling, Yosra Osama Badr

Archived Theses and Dissertations

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions provide generic off-the-shelf reference models usually known as "best practices". The configuration !individualization of the reference model to meet specific requirements of business end users however, is a difficult task. The available modeling languages do not provide a complete configurable language that could be used to model configurable reference models. More specifically, there is no algorithm that monitors the transformation of configurable UML Activity Diagram (AD) models while preserving the syntactic correctness of the model. To fill these gaps we propose an extended UML AD modeling language which we named Configurable UML Activity Diagram (C-UML …

When the new design was implemented, it was tested against the competition: Facebook, MySpace, and YouTube.

The purpose of this study is to determine the effects that Web design …

Http 1.2: Distributed Http For Load Balancing Server Systems, Graham M. O'Daniel Jun 2010

Http 1.2: Distributed Http For Load Balancing Server Systems, Graham M. O'Daniel

Master's Theses

Content hosted on the Internet must appear robust and reliable to clients relying on such content. As more clients come to rely on content from a source, that source can be subjected to high levels of load. There are a number of solutions, collectively called load balancers, which try to solve the load problem through various means. All of these solutions are workarounds for dealing with problems inherent in the medium by which content is served thereby limiting their effectiveness. HTTP, or Hypertext Transport Protocol, is the dominant mechanism behind hosting content on the Internet through websites. The entirety of …

Digital Signaling Processor Resource Management For Small Office Phone Systems, John T. Gilkeson Jun 2010

Digital Signaling Processor Resource Management For Small Office Phone Systems, John T. Gilkeson

Master's Theses

Contemporary small office phone systems are specialized computers that connect a variety of phones within the office and to the local phone company. These systems use digital signaling processors (DSPs) to convert signals from analog to digital and vice-versa. Many different types of applications run on the DSPs and different businesses have varying application needs. Given the systems have limited amounts of DSP resources and growing numbers of applications for a phone system, an administrator needs a way to configure the uses of resources based on their individual business needs.

This thesis provides an overview of a system for configuring …

Monocular Vision And Image Correlation To Accomplish Autonomous Localization, Matthew Paul Schlachtman Jun 2010

Monocular Vision And Image Correlation To Accomplish Autonomous Localization, Matthew Paul Schlachtman

Master's Theses

For autonomous navigation, robots and vehicles must have accurate estimates of their current state (i.e. location and orientation) within an inertial coordinate frame. If a map is given a priori, the process of determining this state is known as localization. When operating in the outdoors, localization is often assumed to be a solved problem when GPS measurements are available. However, in urban canyons and other areas where GPS accuracy is decreased, additional techniques with other sensors and filtering are required.

This thesis aims to provide one such technique based on monocular vision. First, the system requires a map be generated, …

Textured Hierarchical Precomputed Radiance Transfer, Harrison Lee Mckenzie Chapter Jun 2010

Textured Hierarchical Precomputed Radiance Transfer, Harrison Lee Mckenzie Chapter

Master's Theses

Computing complex lighting simulations such as global illumination is a computationally intensive task. Various real time solutions exist to approximate aspects of global illumination such as shadows, however, few of these methods offer single pass rendering solutions for soft shadows (self and other) and inter-reflections. In contrast, Precomputed Radiance Transfer (PRT) is a real-time computer graphics technique which pre-calculates an object's response to potential incident light. At run time, the actual incident light can be used to quickly illuminate the surface, rendering effects such as soft self-shadows and inter-reflections. In this thesis, we show that by calculating PRT lighting coefficients …

Hardware Support For Real-Time Network Security And Packet Classification Using Field Programmable Gate Arrays, Nitesh Bhicu Guinde May 2010

Hardware Support For Real-Time Network Security And Packet Classification Using Field Programmable Gate Arrays, Nitesh Bhicu Guinde

Dissertations

Deep packet inspection and packet classification are the most computationally expensive operations in a Network Intrusion Detection (NID) system. Deep packet inspection involves content matching where the payload of the incoming packets is matched against a set of signatures in the database. Packet classification involves inspection of the packet header fields and is basically a multi-dimensional matching problem. Any matching in software is very slow in comparison to current network speeds. Also, both of these problems need a solution which is scalable and can work at high speeds. Due to the high complexity of these matching problems, only Field-Programmable Gate …

A Layered Framework Approach To Mitigate Crimeware, Mathew Nyamagwa May 2010

A Layered Framework Approach To Mitigate Crimeware, Mathew Nyamagwa

Annual ADFSL Conference on Digital Forensics, Security and Law

Crimeware attacks are growing at such an alarming rate and are becoming so prevalent that the FBI now rank cybercrime among its top priorities after terrorism and espionage. New studies estimate cyber crimes cost firms an astounding $1 trillion annually. But the good news? Over 80% of them are preventable. Crimeware is not a purely technical threat but more or a socio-technical affair. This clearly brings out the fact that computers do not commit a crime, but we (humans) do! In this paper I propose a layered approach that involves all stakeholders from end-users to service-providers and law enforcement to …

Canvass - A Steganalysis Forensic Tool For Jpeg Images, Jennifer L. Davidson, Jaikishan Jalan

Annual ADFSL Conference on Digital Forensics, Security and Law

Steganography is a way to communicate a message such that no one except the sender and recipient suspects the existence of the message. This type of covert communication lends itself to a variety of different purposes such as spy-to-spy communication, exchange of pornographic material hidden in innocuous image files, and other illicit acts. Computer forensic personnel have an interest in testing for possible steganographic files, but often do not have access to the technical and financial resources required to perform steganalysis in an effective manner. This paper describes the results of a funded effort by a grant from the National …

Measuring Whitespace Patterns As An Indication Of Plagiarism, Ilana Shay, Nikolaus Baer, Robert Zeidman May 2010

Measuring Whitespace Patterns As An Indication Of Plagiarism, Ilana Shay, Nikolaus Baer, Robert Zeidman

Annual ADFSL Conference on Digital Forensics, Security and Law

There are several different methods of comparing source code from different programs to find copying1 . Perhaps the most common method is comparing source code statements, comments, strings, identifiers, and instruction sequences. However, there are anecdotes about the use of whitespace patterns in code. These virtually invisible patterns of spaces and tabs have been used in litigation to imply copying, but no formal study has been performed that shows that these patterns can actually identify copied code. This paper presents a detailed study of whitespace patterns and the uniqueness of these patterns in different programs.

A Framework To Integrate The Data Of Interview Investigation And Digital Evidence, Fahad Alshathry May 2010

A Framework To Integrate The Data Of Interview Investigation And Digital Evidence, Fahad Alshathry

Annual ADFSL Conference on Digital Forensics, Security and Law

The physical interview process in crime investigation produces an extremely large amount of data, particularly in big cases. In comparison, examiners of digital evidence have enormous amounts of data to search through whilst looking for data relating to the investigation. However, the links between their results are limited. Whilst investigators need to refute or support their hypothesis throughout, digital evidence examiners often use search based keywords. These keywords are usually created from evidence taken from the physical investigation reports and this basic method has been found to have many shortcomings and limitations. This paper proposes a highly automatic framework to …
