The Job Satisfaction Of New York State’S Public School Business And Marketing Education Teachers, Michael Lamastra
The Job Satisfaction Of New York State’S Public School Business And Marketing Education Teachers, Michael Lamastra
Electronic Theses & Dissertations (2024 - present)
The Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century (Perkins) Act defines career and technical education as organized educational activities in which students learn applied academics, professional skills, and career training in a specific technical field. Many United States students, and ,specifically, New York State students, do not have access to CTE coursework. New York has seven CTE content areas: agriculture, business and marketing, computer science, family and consumer science, health sciences, technology, and trade/technical education.
One barrier to accessing this coursework is the availability of teaching staff. According to data collected by the New York State Education Department …
Heading For The Hills: An Evaluation Of The Conditions Impacting Teacher Attrition And Retention In Post-Pandemic California Title I Schools, Colin M. Mcinnis
Heading For The Hills: An Evaluation Of The Conditions Impacting Teacher Attrition And Retention In Post-Pandemic California Title I Schools, Colin M. Mcinnis
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The low rates of preservice and early in-service teacher retention in California’s Title I schools have been a longstanding concern and contributing factor in the state’s teacher shortage. However, the impacts of the SARS-CoV-2 (Coronavirus) pandemic exacerbating teacher attrition creates a concern for how frameworks of new teacher support should be re-examined in post-pandemic classrooms. This study aimed to understand what factors are most important to preservice and early in-service teachers working in Title I schools when deciding to retain or resign from their positions. Additionally, this study examined whether reported factors associated with teacher attrition and retention differ from …
Experiential Learning Through Simulations In Fully Online Asynchronous Courses: Exploring The Role Of Self-Debriefing, David De Jong, Sara Dexter
Experiential Learning Through Simulations In Fully Online Asynchronous Courses: Exploring The Role Of Self-Debriefing, David De Jong, Sara Dexter
Research & Publications
Online preparation of professionals is increasing in higher education, which in educational leadership prepa ration programs raises the need for a means to provide authentic simulations of leadership experiences and help aspirants learn from them. This study presents a content analysis of 826 responses from 59 different school leadership students who, following each of the 14 simulations they experienced, wrote one response in an asynchronous format as a form of self-debriefing. The five themes identified map to the four phases of the experiential learning cycle (Kolb, 1984), suggesting that virtual opportunities to practice leadership in tions may serve as grounding …
A Teacher Apprenticeship Pathway In A Rural, Midwest State: Perspectives Of Teacher Apprentices, Megan Schuh, Jennifer Nash, Ryan Young, David De Jong
A Teacher Apprenticeship Pathway In A Rural, Midwest State: Perspectives Of Teacher Apprentices, Megan Schuh, Jennifer Nash, Ryan Young, David De Jong
Research & Publications
The national teacher shortage makes it challenging for principals and superintendents to hire certified teachers. To address this problem, a university in a rural state in the Midwest partnered with their state’s agencies to develop a teacher apprenticeship pathway (TAP) for 78 paraprofessionals working in the state’s public, non-public, and tribal schools. The TAP provides an organized pathway to earn a teaching degree. This study reveals the perceptions of the participants after completing their first semester. The results reveal that most experiences are positive, yet they desire more communication and help with time management. The results of this study can …
Transforming Workforce Pipelines: Equity, Credentialing, And Drone-Integrated Apprenticeships In Missouri, Linda S. Stinson
Transforming Workforce Pipelines: Equity, Credentialing, And Drone-Integrated Apprenticeships In Missouri, Linda S. Stinson
Murray State Theses and Dissertations
This study examines how Missouri integrates drone technology into Registered Youth Apprenticeship and Career and Technical Education programs to develop equitable, credentialed pathways into high-skill careers. Grounded in Human Capital Theory, Credential Signaling Theory, and Transformational Leadership Theory, the research explores how emerging technologies intersect with labor market demands, credential access, and instructional leadership. The literature review highlights both national and international models of scalable apprenticeship systems, emphasizing the role of intermediaries, credential alignment, and early STEM exposure. Missouri’s initiatives, including the Top Drone Academy, serve as a case model for workforce-aligned innovation, yet challenges persist in infrastructure, teacher certification, …
Building Student-Teacher Relational Trust Through The Promotion Of Student Voice Initiatives, Scott Scherquist
Building Student-Teacher Relational Trust Through The Promotion Of Student Voice Initiatives, Scott Scherquist
Theses and Dissertations
This Dissertation in Practice investigated how student voice initiatives can strengthen student–teacher relational trust within an urban Pre-kindergarten through eighth grade (PreK-8) school serving a predominantly Black student population. Grounded in Khalifa’s (2018) Culturally Responsive School Leadership framework, the study implemented a 90-day cycle of inquiry focused on a three-part pathway intervention: the establishment of a Student Voice Committee, professional development on culturally responsive practices, and Student Consultation for School Change. A convergent mixed methods design was employed, combining two administrations of the 5Essentials Survey with pre- and post-intervention interviews of students and teachers. Findings revealed disparities between student and …
Connecting Principals To The Implementation Of A Multi-Tiered System Of Support, Douglas L. Rose
Connecting Principals To The Implementation Of A Multi-Tiered System Of Support, Douglas L. Rose
Doctor of Education Dissertations
The purpose of this explanatory sequential mixed methods study was to examine the implementation of a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) through the lens of secondary school administrators following professional development. The professional development was chunked and spread over time following the principles of Cognitive Load Theory (Sweller, 2010) to expand understanding of MTSS implementation. Following the professional development, 25 administrators completed a 42-question survey. Ten secondary administrators completed an 11-question interview to expand on the results of the survey. The culmination of results from the quantitative survey, qualitative interviews, and literature provided insight into the practices that increase administrator …
Determining The Impact Of Administrative Feedback On The Nctei On Alternatively Licensed Teachers' Self-Efficacy, Lauren P. Hayes
Determining The Impact Of Administrative Feedback On The Nctei On Alternatively Licensed Teachers' Self-Efficacy, Lauren P. Hayes
Doctor of Education Dissertations
Alternatively licensed teachers are becoming more present in today’s classrooms. Additionally, teacher evaluation processes are often completed for compliance instead of a meaningful practice. Research shows that when teachers receive high-quality, effective administrative feedback, they experience higher self-efficacy levels. The study aimed to determine the impact of administrative feedback given on the North Carolina Teacher Evaluation Instrument on alternatively licensed teachers’ self-efficacy. The study utilized a Teacher Sense of Efficacy Scale that was distributed to alternatively licensed teachers in a medium-sized North Carolina school district. Teachers were asked to participate, and six participants were randomly selected to participate in individual …
