This paper attempts to unpack the notion and process of institutional capacity building of NGOs / CBOs in rural and semi-urban areas if the Sindh province. Several NGOs / CBOs and other organizations tend to take initiatives embedded in the ‘first order’ changes which are of incremental nature and have failed to contribute substantially towards enhancing their institutional capacity building. An Evaluation Of Teton Science School's Journeys Place-Based Education Program As Effective Environmental Education Teacher Training, John Hayes

This thesis is an analysis of survey research data evaluating Journeys, a place-based environmental education teacher inservice training program developed and administered by Teton Science School. Information gleaned from stakeholder interviews was used to develop the specific evaluation questions. A self-administered mail survey was then sent to all teachers known to have received Journeys training.

Nearly all trained teachers go on to use Journeys with their classes, and show a commitment to making Journeys a permanent part of their classroom. Teachers generally agreed that their involvement with Journeys has had positive effects on their teaching behaviors and attitudes towards teaching. …

This paper describes insights related to the potential use of on-line training modules with elementary education pre-service teachers for enhancing their experience and background in mathematical modeling. These insights resulted from a field test of a new online learning prototype developed within a National Science Foundation Proof-of-Concept project. The insights listed in the paper are further supported by two URL addresses that link to detailed notes, background documents, and various demonstration pieces.

While inquiry in science teaching has found a great deal of acceptance (Colletet and Chiapetta, 1989), there is a growing recognition that educators need a wider repertoire of inquiry strategies applicable to various situations. One promising approach is through the use of so-called ‘dissonant’ or ‘discrepant events’. This concept of discrepancy can be traced to the early work of Festinger (1975) and his Theory of Cognitive Dissonance in which he stated that the creation of dissonance is psychologically very uncomfortable and motivates individuals to actively reduce the level of dissonance and thereby return to a state of greater equilibrium or …

The purpose of this project was to design and develop an inservice training manual for facilitating effective teaching strategies of behaviorally challenged middle level students for Cashmere School District, Cashmere, Washington. To accomplish this purpose, current research and literature on behaviorally challenged students were reviewed. Strategies were developed by putting the research to practice with behaviorally challenged students and typical students in a fifth and sixth grade multi-age classroom.

Perceptions Of Recent Teacher Education Graduates Regarding Their Preparation To Teach, Julie Marie Barrett

The purpose of. this study was to investigate how recent graduates of a special education and an elementary education program perceived their preparation to teach. Sixty-five recent graduates responded to a twenty-two item Teacher Perception Likert-Scale questionnaire regarding their perceptions about their education. The results were analyzed by calculating means for three separate indices within the questionnaire to provide information on overall satisfaction. A t-test indicated no significant differences at the .OS level for each index between special education and elementary education graduates . The Faculty of Education's response to this perceived inadequacy is to carry out a mandatory skills-based remedial writing programme for students whose literacy competencies are judged to be deficient, The instrument used to assess the students' literacy competencies is the English Skills Assessment test. To accomplish this purpose, research and literature on student motivation, staff development and primarily the works of Dr. Madeline Hunter and Dr. William Glasser, in relation to student motivation, were reviewed. This report is about team teaching in two practice teaching experiences, one is Spanish and the other in EFL. Its purpose is to explore the pros and cons of team teaching and is primarily based on personal experience and research. The team teaching experiences related in this report share a number of similar points. However, one was based on a hierarchical relationship between the two teachers and the other was not. Therefore, there are also a number of differences corresponding to the organization of the teams. The similarities and differences are discussed in the conclusion.
