Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer students were a vulnerable population in rural Appalachian high schools. Minority high school students, specifically those who identified as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, who saw themselves reflected in practices and curriculum increased their academic performance, felt safe, and developed stronger empathy for others. Traditionally, English Language Arts teachers had power to select literary works and supplemental materials they deemed important for their students; however, local, district, and state stakeholders and policymakers influenced curricular choices in English Language Arts classrooms more directly than had occurred in the past. Teachers are the strongest school-based determinant of student success. Yet at the start of the 2022-23 school year, across the state of Connecticut, over 1,200 certified staff member positions were vacant. The educator shortage was particularly acute in upper-level math and science, special education, and bilingual education.

Despite growing demand for educators in those subject areas, the number of pre-service educators pursuing those endorsements has generally remained constant or decreased between 2015-2021, suggesting that absent meaningful change, shortages will persist.

This manuscript is one part of a larger exploratory collective case study of pre-service teachers who participated in a student teaching abroad program for one-month in Germany. The objective was to ascertain if and how pre-service teachers with no prior training in intercultural competence (ICC) developed both their understanding and conceptualization of ICC. Data was collected before, during, and after the experience via focus groups, individual interviews, journal entries, and program evaluations. This study responds to this pedagogical pursuit by experimenting with the integration of team-based mobile learning (TBML) in extensive reading classes mediated by the mobile instant messaging application Telegram. The method used is a study of the literature related to explanatory ability and CLA Task, the literature studied from 2015 to 2022. The literature study results are CLA Task with an open-ended question, problem-based situations, and problem-solving can be used as an assessment of explanatory ability that consist of indicators for justifying procedures, state result, and present explanation. The achievement of the three indicators of explanatory ability that will be empowered with CLA Task needs the help of electronic module for media learning.

This study aims to investigate how online learning self-efficacy, self-regulated learning, and achievement motivation affect students' academic performance in online courses during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study participants were students from the Office Administration Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Surabaya. We used structural equation modelling (SEM) to measure the direct and indirect effects of the structural model. The results show that online learning self-efficacy positively affects self-regulated learning, achievement motivation, and academic performance. However, self-regulated learning and achievement motivation do not affect academic performance, and also do not mediate the relationship between online learning self-efficacy and academic performance.

This study aimed to enhance the elementary preservice teachers’ scientific literacy at Pelita Bangsa University by using flipped problem-based learning integrated with e-campus. This Classroom Action Research was done in three cycles and each cycle was conducted with planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of this study were 32 preservice teachers in the elementary teacher education program of Pelita Bangsa University in the academic year 2021-2022. Instruments and data collection techniques were observation, questionnaire, and test. The result of this study showed that the implementation of flipped problem-based learning integrated with e-campus improved elementary preservice teachers’ scientific literacy.

In this paper, we describe our perspectives and experiences working as one of several small groups within a campus-wide program at our university to help implement transparency in learning and teaching (TILT) principles. As the K-12 classroom changes to support the needs of our every-changing society, so should the teacher education courses change on the university level. Additionally, the focus on higher education has become more student-centered with an emphasis on transparency in teaching and learning (TILT). The purpose of this article is to highlight the positive experiences two teacher education professors had using TILT to examine assignments and course syllabi. The journey of developing transparent assignments and student-centered syllabi is time-consuming, challenging, and on-going, but the benefits of a student-centered classroom are invaluable.

Transparency of learning and teaching (TILT) is key to student success, as it allows students to understand directions and make concrete steps toward completing a set of tasks. The present paper outlines the early stages of a campus-wide program at one institution that infuses TILT practices across campus in the classroom as well as non-academic units. TILT practices make the purpose, required tasks, and criteria for success clear to students in everyday campus interactions with faculty and staff. Little music therapy research has been published on therapeutic presence (TP). This study explored the inclusion of TP in music therapy education. Participants were eight credentialed music therapists who identified as music therapy educators and/or clinical supervisors. They attended one of two focus groups and were asked to submit a 1-minute excerpt of themselves improvising a reflection of their focus group’s discussion. Focus group data revealed four themes: (1) Defining TP; (2) Education and Supervision Responsibilities; (3) TP is Taught Through Experiential Learning; and (4) Learning TP is a Developmental Process.
