Preparing Cacrep-Accredited Doctoral Students To Teach, Meredith Lt Montgomery, Mei Tang Feb 2021

Preparing Cacrep-Accredited Doctoral Students To Teach, Meredith Lt Montgomery, Mei Tang

Journal of Counselor Preparation and Supervision

Counselor education literature addresses training of future counselors although little is known about the preparation of doctoral students as teachers. This qualitative thematic analysis utilizes a Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) theoretical framework and a Contextualism philosophical framework to answer the question: How are doctoral students in CACREP-accredited doctoral programs prepared to teach? Faculty (n=6) and students (n=10) from ten CACREP-accredited Counselor Education and Supervision (CES) programs across the United States participated. A narrative description of the process of preparing doctoral students to teach is based on three identified themes: relationship, pedagogy, and effort. Implications include a need for stewardship of …

Pragmatic Approach To The Analysis Of Expressing Connotative Meaning In The English And Uzbek Literary Texts, Mukharam Khayatovna Alimova Associate Professor, O Yu. Jilina Teacher

Central Asian Journal of Education

The article deals with the expression of connotation in the English and Uzbek literary texts proceeding from the pragmatic approach to the analysis. In the paper examples selected from the English and Uzbek literary texts manifest the expression of various shades of connotation on the phonetic, phonological, lexical, morphological and syntactical levels of the language. The analysis of the English and Uzbek literary texts shows that in spite of the fact that English and Uzbek languages belong to different typological systems and different genealogical families there are a lot of common similarities in expressing connotation. On the basis of the …

Are Faculty Prepared To Teach Flexibly?: Results From An Evaluation Study, Devshikha Bose, Rob Nyland

CTL Teaching Gallery

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, there were hardly any formal/established professional development (PD) program s that intentionally prepared faculty to teach flexibly. The uncertainty around the modality of the fall 2020 semester, required faculty to be prepared to teach their courses in flexible methods in order to meet the needs of their students and the constraints of their institution. This article is an updated report on the evaluation of the Flexible Teaching for Student Success (FTSS) Initiative at Boise State University—a three-tiered faculty development initiative designed to prepare faculty to teach their courses in flexible formats. Evaluation surveys and a …

The Girls in STEM Day program hosted by UNLV Scientista Foundation is designed to encourage middle school girls of color from the Clark County School District to find interest in STEM. Interactive activities and framework analysis of the program provides prospective success towards increasing interest and …

Introductory Classical Mechanics: An Alternate Order Of Concepts, Eric Hawker Feb 2021

Introductory Classical Mechanics: An Alternate Order Of Concepts, Eric Hawker

Professional Learning Day

A novel approach to teaching an introductory physics course is to study the principles of classical mechanics in the order of increasing complexity. Participate in this session to explore an interesting series of progression: from concepts that describe an object at rest, to an object with constant velocity, followed by those that describe how an object’s velocity can change, and finally, gravity. This session will engage participants in the study of this progression and include discussion.

Leadership, Anthony Pearson-Shaver, Evan Layton Feb 2021

Leadership, Anthony Pearson-Shaver, Evan Layton

HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine

Though they become responsible for leading teams and supervising more junior learners early in their career, physicians receive little formal leadership training. The “see one, do one, teach one” approach to behavioral modeling and mentorship does not serve the modern young physician well. The complex nature of modern healthcare demands that physicians learn to work within the teams they will often come to lead. Within these teams, members often look to physicians to fill leadership roles. This review will examine effective leadership as defined by the business community, review attempts to incorporate leadership training into graduate medical education programs and …

Asassn-18am/Sn 2018gk: An Overluminous Type Iib Supernova From A Massive Progenitor, Dirk Grupe Feb 2021

Asassn-18am/Sn 2018gk: An Overluminous Type Iib Supernova From A Massive Progenitor, Dirk Grupe

Faculty Research at Morehead State University

ASASSN-18am/SN 2018gk is a newly discovered member of the rare group of luminous, hydrogen-rich supernovae (SNe) with a peak absolute magnitude of 𝑀𝑉 20 mag that is in between normal core-collapse SNe and superluminous SNe. These SNe show no prominent spectroscopic signatures of ejecta interacting with circumstellar material (CSM), and their powering mechanism is debated. ASASSN-18am declines extremely rapidly for a Type II SN, with a photospheric-phase decline rate of 60 mag (100 d)1. Owing to the weakening of Hi and the appearance of He i in its later phases, ASASSN-18am is spectroscopically a Type IIb SN with a partially …
