One of the largest challenges for administrators is to create and implement teacher evaluation systems that help improve teaching and student learning. As policymakers and administrators have worked throughout the United States to develop and implement new teacher evaluation systems, teacher involvement in developing those teacher evaluation systems has been limited. Specifically, the evaluation process and the tools used in a state in the southwestern part of the United States to evaluate teachers do not incorporate teachers’ perspectives, yet they directly impact teacher standing, ability to receive tenure status, and, in some cases, their salary.

The ninth grade is a transition year from middle school to high school where many students struggle to successfully navigate a new environment, new teachers and peers, new academic and behavioral expectations, and the concept of graduation requirements. This qualitative study examined the effects of academic track placement, and student levels of skill and will, on successful ninth-grade completion in one New Mexico Title I high school. ABSTRACT In this study I investigated the relationships between male primary teachers who have adopted the ethic of care as an organizing principle in their work with children, and the ways in which caring reveals itself through their behaviors, words, and general relationships with their students. Case study methodology was used with two veteran teachers working in primary grade classrooms. Case study theory was used to analyze interviews, classroom observations, and student verbal and behavioral interactions with their teacher and each other. Case study analysis revealed six significant findings.

Now in its third program year, with termination of federal funding imminent, efforts will be made by Zuni tribal and school district administrators to institutionalize the ZCEP program within the present educational structure at Zuni. This study investigated two instances of organizational crisis occurring within a voluntary professional organization. The central research task was twofold: (1) to reconstruct accurately the historical events which preceded and followed two unsuccessful strike bids by a voluntary teachers' organization; and, (2) to develop a theoretical explanation which would account for the antecedents and consequences of the crises which inevitably surfaced after the strike bid defeat. Con­cepts drawn primarily from the organizational crisis and conflict literature provided the general conceptual orientation.
