Through its grants, the National Science Foundation sponsors workshops that inform faculty of current topics in Computer Science. Such a workshop, entitled, "Developing Multimedia-based Interactive Laboratory Modules for Computer Science", was given July 27 -August 6, 1998, at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. Each participant was expected to design and implement a small part of a laboratory module. This paper describes what some of the faculty members who participated in the workshop have done with the knowledge obtained from the workshop.

Describes how the author facilitates drama experiences in the foundations of education courses that she teaches for preservice teachers. Suggests the course helps students gain an understanding of the philosophies of education, the rationale for arts in the curriculum, as well as multiple perspectives of dramatic art, by learning through experience.

Professional studies courses often focus on mastering a common body of knowledge but ignore student interaction and the development of critical thinking and communication skills. In a cost accounting course at Connecticut's Sacred Heart University offered in fall 1993, various group and individual activities were implemented to incorporate these skills into the course. The requirements of the course included two quizzes, a computer project, class participation and activities, and a final examination. The approach to the course was based on pedagogical recommendations developed by the Accounting Education Change Commission (AECC) in 1989, which stressed the importance of solving unstructured problems …

Sacred Heart University, a private, liberal arts university in southwestern Connecticut has, over the past fourteen years through the Faculty of Science, Mathematics, and Computer Science established partnerships with various educational institutions and school systems for both teacher and student enhancement in the science and technology areas. Those who have benefited include teachers grades K-12, senior citizens, corporate and municipal employees in the community, and students in inner city, private, and suburban settings in grades 2-12.

The article discusses the study which applies the Johari Window model during the teacher self-assessment process to identify the development needs of teachers in the United States. Staff development programs are successful when the outcomes being fostered are relevant to the teachers' needs.

Teacher self-improvement is a promising approach to explore as schools plan to meet the professional development needs of their staff. In this article we focus on: 1) the basic concept of teacher self-improvement, 2) the relationship between teacher self-improvement and teacher evaluation, 3) the categories of information which can be examined during the self-improvement process, 4) some strategies for teacher self-assessment, 5), the process of planning a teacher self-improvement program, and 6) the role of self-improvement in facilitating school improvement.
