An Analysis Of Selected Psycholinguistic Instructional Aids For The Remediation Of Learning Deficiencies Among Early Elementary Children, Janice S. Williams
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The problem was to determine whether selected psycholinguistic instructional aids were effective in remediating learning deficiencies among early elementary children (grades 1-3). Literature was reviewed to substantiate a need for the use of psycholinguistic instructional aids for remediation of learning deficiencies among early elementary children. Research surveyed included auditory perception skills, language skills, motor skills, and visual perception skills. Data were collected from test groups of students in grade levels one, two, and three. A stratified random sampling technique yielded a sample of thirty-six students, eighteen males and eighteen females. Each of the three grade level groups in the sample …

Financing Universal Compulsory Free Elementary Education In India, Simon Gurushantappa David

Problem: There is a definite desire and demand from the people of India for elementary educational opportunities for all children. Since not all children between six and fourteen years of age are able to attend school, it is essential to know why. This study examined some of the factors which tended to influence the financial ability of the government to provide a sufficient number of schools so that all children may attend.
Data Collection, Methods, and Procedures: Data has been collected from a review of selected resource material which answer the following questions: What is India presently spending on elementary …

Oral Reading, Silent Reading, And Listening Comprehension: A Comparative Study For Above-Average And Below-Average Readers, Rita M. Joost
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
By comparing listening comprehension to reading comprehension for above-average and below-average readers, one can come to some conclusions about where the problem resides for poor readers-whether it be lack of phonic skills or lack of general verbal competence. Because teachers need to know better where to invest their resources, investigations such as mine need to be done.
Study Guides: Their Effect On Reading Comprehension In Content Areas In The Third Grade, Ruth Hackenson
Study Guides: Their Effect On Reading Comprehension In Content Areas In The Third Grade, Ruth Hackenson
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using study guides in content areas of the elementary curriculum on the general level of comprehension of third grade pupils in those content areas. It appeared from the search of the literature that study guides had been little used for lower elementary students. More frequent use has been with upper elementary and high school students. A study using third grade subjects seemed to be of value for at least two reasons: one, to fill the gap and two, to discover the benefits that might accrue, or to lend credence …
Training Teachers To Plan, Philip Deschamp, David Tripp
Training Teachers To Plan, Philip Deschamp, David Tripp
Australian Journal of Teacher Education
As part of an attempt to understand why teachers use particular approaches to planning, this study addressed the question of how primary teachers are taught to plan by training institutions in Western Australia. The main reason for conducting this survey was the assumption that, although teachers' planning is influenced by other factors (such as the particular requirements ofthe schools in which they teach, what they believe to be their role as teachers, and the characteristics of the particular students) a major influence, especially if they are new to teaching, is how they were taught to plan during their initial training.

Comparison Of The Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test And The Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale In School Age Children, Stephen Skiles
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The correlate relationships and directionality and magnitude of mean differences between MAs and IQs of the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test and Revised Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale (both 1960 and 1972 norms) were investigated in a sample of 225 school age children. It was found that MAs of two instruments were more highly correlated than the IQs. For the total sample, no significant differences were found between mean MAs of the two instruments. The correlation between PPVT and the 1960 Revised Stanford-Binet IQs and the correlation between PPVT and 1972 Revised Stanford-Binet IQs were found to be identical. The PPVT was found …

Recreation Needs Of Pre-Adolescent Girls In Selected Public Schools, Michael Aune
Recreation Needs Of Pre-Adolescent Girls In Selected Public Schools, Michael Aune
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
There was a need to determine the recreation needs of girls in the pre-adolescent age range of nine through fourteen years old so that municipal recreation professionals may program activities to meet the desires of this specific population. In order to do this, a testing instrument was developed. The test, a recreation preference schedule, used closed questions exclusively, unlike many of the available checklist surveys. The recreation preference schedule was modeled after the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule that was used in counseling. The new test, containing one hundred questions, utilized ten recreation activity categories. It was checked for reliability and …

Basic research into the observation and evaluation of elementary teachers in Illinois was conducted during the 1976-77 school year. The research was divided into two major sections. Section I consisted of the development and administration of a 42-question survey instrument designed to probe observations, evaluations, and elementary teachers' opinions concerning such. The sample universe was restricted to full-time elementary classroom teachers taking graduate courses. Section II consisted of obtaining and analyzing evaluation instruments from various size and type school districts in Illinois. Significant findings of the research include:
1. The majority of elementary principals are male, have in-classroom elementary teaching …

Nongraded Education: A Modified Plan For Implementation In The Elementary School, Betty S. Cowan
Nongraded Education: A Modified Plan For Implementation In The Elementary School, Betty S. Cowan
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Nongraded education differs theoretically from graded education in administrative and curricular design. The nongraded program responds to individual abilities and achievement, and groups accordingly. The graded school is organized on the basis of age and group expectation, and prescribes curriculum which equates with grade level requirements rather than ability. This project presents selected details of both graded and nongraded education and a modified plan for implementation of a nongraded program.

This paper presents a comparative investigation of five basic processes in the duplicating field that are readily available to teachers in British Columbia. Forty teachers from fourteen schools, kindergarten through grade twelve, were surveyed to determine present practices and needs for this method of communication.
