The Integrated Expressive Arts And Humanities : Coping With Curriculum Change, Linley Campbell

Australian Journal of Teacher Education

The concept of curriculum integration in education has recently received increased attention. This has been largely due to the introduction of Learning Area Profiles, Statements and Outcomes, and most recently the Curriculum Framework. 'Integration, breadth and balance' is one of the seven key principles underlying The Curriculum Framework for Western Australian Schools. (Curriculum Council of Western Australia, 1998). Collectively, these documents emphasise the integration of knowledge, skills and values in the eight key learning areas of the curriculum. Such a holistic view of the curriculum is considered to be fundamental to sound educational practice.

This research was carried out with the aim to evaluate the implementation of al Azhar curriculum at secondary religious school under Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor (JAIS) This research was focused to the ability difference shown between overseas and locally graduated teachers and also to certified and non-certified teachers. A set of questionnaires was created and circulated to 161 teachers from 23 schools. Out of that only 152 teachers responded. Data were then analyzed by using " frequency'' method to get the percentage difference and at the same time ·'chi square' analysis is was used 10 obtain the difference between variables. …

This study focuses on the designing of a reading and writing module for Form I students. The module consists of a three-week lesson plan which includes teaching, reading and writing activities. These activities are focused on one specific unit in the Form 1 KBSM English Language syllabus which is the descriptions of places of interest. This paper compares System Dynamic models built by graduate students to those built by high school students. The motivation behind this comparison is to explore the question: "How effectively is feedback-oriented system dynamics being taught in secondary schools compared to graduate school?" Teachers' beliefs are considered to have a strong influence on various aspects of teachers' classroom practices. This study specifically examines the teachers' beliefs and their practices, in relation to the teaching and learning of vocabulary in reading comprehension lessons to English as second language (ESL) students. Hence, this study sought to investigate if the professed beliefs are displayed during classroom instruction, placing special attention to a particular component of subject area: vocabulary. The purpose of this study was to assess and determine the current level of technology competencies in preservice teachers at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI). The Teacher Education Faculty at UNI developed and adopted the Preservice Teacher Technology Competencies (Appendix A), performance-based competencies modeled on several national standards documents. Preservice teachers at three different levels in the college of education program participated in this study.

This research attempts to study the application of information skills in the practicum reports of the ln-Service English Language Immersion course participants. Application of information skills entails retrieving and processing information through library skills; reading comprehension; reading strategies such as skimming and scanning; identifying main ideas; note-taking and report or essay writing. Does a student's performance on a standardized test measure the quality of education he/she is receiving? Many students today are being bombarded with standardized assessments mandated by state and district policies. The pressure to perform well on these assessments causes teachers to focus their classroom instructional time on test preparation even at the expense of the non-tested topics and curricular areas. A written survey was designed to determine teachers' perceptions of the influence of standardized tests on curricular and instructional practices. Elementary classroom teachers, who were members of the Texas Classroom Teachers Association, were surveyed regarding their opinions and beliefs toward elementary physical education specialists and elementary physical education programs. A total of 122 surveys were used in the results from a mailing of 500. Classroom teachers ranked professional positions in the elementary setting from most important (1) to least important (11). Classroom teachers then responded to questions about the physical education specialist and the physical education program on their campuses. A Qualitative Study Of A Team-Teaching Classroom And A Traditional One-Teacher Classroom In An Elementary School Setting, Johnny D. Thompson

This study describes two heterogeneously grouped second-grade classrooms during the 1998-99 school year. One class featured collaborative team teaching, and the second class was taught by a traditional single teacher. There were 33 regular education students and nine at-risk students in the team classroom and 14 regular education students and eight at-risk students in the one-teacher classroom. One hundred three interviews were conducted with 21 students in the team classroom and 18 students in the one-teacher classroom, with 13 parents, with three teachers, and with the school principal. The researcher observed the two classes 61 times from September to May. …
