This purpose of this study was to determine the perception of secondary educators involved in Future Farmers of Georgia (FFG) schools throughout the country of Georgia concerning their needs for furthering the existing framework of agricultural education. The researchers used a modified focus group method to meet the aformentioned purpose of this study. The population for this study consisted of the high school agricultural education teachers and their administrators who were participating in the FFG Program (n=14). Emerging Critical Literacy In Teachers As Novice Researchers, Jennifer Mitton Kukner

This paper explores the experiences of three teachers as novice researchers as they taught full-time in a university English language school in Turkey. Viewing the participants’ experiences as researchers through a narrative understanding of teacher knowledge and a critical literacy lens enhanced their critical cognisance of their positioning as women instructors in a higher education setting. Their research experiences were shaped not only by their classroom concerns but also by expectations and larger social narratives that lived beyond their classroom doors. Numeracy

The aim of this paper is to assess and report the numeracy levels of unskilled and semi-skilled workers in three South African chrome mines in order to inform adult education practitioners of the need for greater efforts to educate mine workers. The target population consisted of 1,053 workers; the final sample was 873 participants who voluntarily agreed to partake in the study. The results presented here highlight three main findings: (1) that only 12 individuals (1.4%) were found to be numerate, (2) that female participants scored better than their male counterparts, and (3) that the numeracy level of participants older …

Teaching Computer Skills To Senior Citizens: A Library Assistant’S Learning Experience, Ngaire I R Smith

Georgia Library Quarterly

This paper describes the challenges of teaching senior citizens in their 70s and 80s elementary Web and computer skills at the University of Georgia’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Simple tasks such as clicking on links and understanding the difference between the address bar and a search box confused class members and the instructor attempted to address this age divide by developing activities that would make using the Web easier and more fun.

The author asserts that libraries are the answer to tough times, which provide job-seeking opportunities, free continuing education and learning opportunities. She cites the role of the Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Foundations (ALTAFF), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), in helping people who support libraries maximize their effectiveness at the local and state levels. She stresses the need for those who use libraries to exercise the power of their voices to make sure that libraries get the funding they need.

Older adults present a special challenge to libraries offering computer training. Many of those seeking training have little, if any, prior experience with the concepts and skills necessary to use computers, yet their ability to learn those concepts and skills is hampered by the aging process. This article summarizes the factors in aging which most affect learning computer skills, and how those factors can be mitigated.

The Hawthorn Institute of Education has had a long tradition of training Technical and Further Education (henceforth, 'TAFE') teachers. The TAFE context in general (and the practicum context in TAFE colleges in particular) gives rise to many difficulties and challenges which do not beset the pre-service education of secondary teachers (at least not to the same degree).
