The purpose of this study was to determine if peer-assisted learning strategies (PALS) could increase students with autism's math fluency skills as well as enhance their social skills. All students involved in the study began their math fluency at a basic addition subtraction level 1 on the Morningside Math Fluency program. Also at the beginning of the study the students completed a How I Feel Toward Others survey and it was determined that they were either indifferent toward others or disengaged. Students with disabilities are less prepared to meet the challenges of adulthood, more likely to continue to live with their parents after high school, and engage in fewer social activities (Burgstahler & Kim-Rupnow, 2001). For many of these students, transition services are not being implemented and monitored as mandated by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), therefore, the probability for a successful transition from high school to adulthood for these students is severely jeopardized. This study investigated the effects of using the Smartboard and interactive games to improve reading comprehension skills of secondary students with moderate cognitive disabilities. A total of 11 9th and 10th graders in a special services school participated in the study. A single subject design of ABC phases was used. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect on using virtual reality for middle school students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) for learning their social conversation skills. Six students participated in the study to learn social skills in a simulated learning environment through six lessons. A multiple-baseline design across students with AB phases was used. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of using the Apple iPad to assist students with low functioning autism in learning communication skills. Three non-verbal students identified as having autism and being low-functioning participated in the study. A multiple baseline design with AB phases across academic and social settings was used. The purpose of this study is to compare the growth in reading levels of ninth grade special education students who received Read 180 instruction as an intervention. The study implemented an experimental group pretest/posttest design. Both groups received Read 180 instruction for 40 minutes daily. Group 1 participants were part of a pilot small learning community and were receiving Read 180 intervention as a supplement to their English class. The purposes of the study are to examine the effects of inquiry-based and teacher-centered instruction methods when teaching science for middle school students with learning disabilities. These two instructional methods were provided to 81 students in two middle schools located in southern New Jersey. Of those, 30 students with learning disabilities, 15 in each school participated in the study. Both groups were given a pre and post test prior to and after the three weeks of science instruction to evaluate student performance. Classes in two urban schools were observed and data were collected to decide the effectiveness of the RTI strategies and interventions which were given to the students. The purpose of this research was to (1) examine teachers' attitudes and perceptions regarding harassment, intimidation, and bullying, (HIB) behaviors displayed by public school students, (2) determine changes in teachers attitudes and perceptions regarding HIB as a result of specific training and, (3) identify the subsequent impact on their views and opinions of HIB. The purpose of this exploratory research was to ascertain the validity of the Total Physical Response Storytelling (TPRS) language learning method in comparison with "traditional" language learning methods. The research focused on high school students (n= 44) in grades 9-12 with mild learning disabilities such as specific learning disorder, other health impairment, communication impairment, and multiple disabilities. Students varied greatly with the successes of both language learning methods. There were four classes that participated in the study and half of the classes performed better on assessments when taught through TPRS techniques. This study aimed at evaluating a sample of six fourth graders with learning disabilities as they were taught Collaborative Strategic Reading. The program was taught by a special education teacher in a self-contained classroom over a period of 5 weeks. Mean comprehension scores increased slightly over the course of the study while their vocabulary scores remained relatively consistent. Student average scores in vocabulary understanding were slightly higher than their comprehension scores. Although average scores increased, individual student performance was inconsistent. These results suggest that students with learning disabilities require more time to learn and develop strategies in comprehension. The findings …

This study was done to examine the effect of the 20 Word Chant on student's ability to recall sight words. The participants were from various backgrounds, ability levels, disabilities. The students were exposed to two presentation formats. The 20 Word Chant was added to the daily routine as well as the daily flash card drill.
