Global Decisions: A Curriculum For Enrichment In Health Education Using Kohlberg's Discussion Of Moral Dilemmas, Leanne Bond Lacey

Using Lawrence Kohlberg's Theory of Moral Development and Discussion of Moral Dilemmas, an enrichment curriculum was created for use in the senior high school Health Education classroom or the Gifted Education classroom. The student is first introduced to the six stages of moral development as outlined by Kohlberg's theory. The instructional theories of Taba, Simon and Raths are also integrated with Kohlberg's theory through both individual and group discussion activities. A Clinical Supervision And Peer Coaching Model To Improve Instructional Effectiveness, Arthur Lee Galloway

The interrelationship of clinical supervision and peer coaching strategies to improve instructional effectiveness were studied. A peer coaching in-service program, detailing coaching procedures and activities, was developed and implemented in the social studies department at Mount Si High School. The results of the program showed that peer coaching can be utilized by teachers to assume greater leadership and responsibility in the area of instructional improvement.

A Handbook For High School Activities Coordinators, Douglas W. Helgeson

A handbook for activities coordinators in AAA-size high schools was developed. The result of the study indicated that management of student activities was moving to the supervision of an assistant principal, and that a representative document for implementation and organization of student activities was needed. Further, the study demonstrated that a handbook for advisors and for students needed to be developed to complete the organizational loop.

Data were collected from all AAA-size high schools. Representative common job responsibilities for a half-time activities coordinator were provided. Recommendations from the conclusions were discussed.

A Comparative Study Of Student Directed Dialogue Journal Writing And Teacher Directed Dialogue Journal Writing, Yolanda Paez Bailey

The purpose of this study was to compare student directed dialogue journal writing with teacher directed dialogue journal writing. Eleven students in the student directed group wrote about self-generated topics while 12 students in the teacher directed group wrote on topics selected by the teacher. Data were analyzed in the areas of amount of writing generated, types of language functions, topics and the ability to stay on topic, level of technical improvement, types of questions posed by students and teacher, and attitudes towards writing. Current methods of teaching business communications in the high school classroom are very traditional. By developing a business communications simulation, the traditional classroom has an additional dimension for practicing letter writing skills, as well as oral communications and human relations skills. The goal in this project was to change the traditionally taught business communication course into a more practical hands-on experience of what is done in an actual employment situation.

Instructional units of study covering automotive technology for an academic year were developed. This project presents the development of a student handbook for Odessa Junior-Senior High School. The handbook was designed to define the rules, regulations, procedures, requirements, activities and services of Odessa Junior-Senior High School. This is the first comprehensive handbook in the history of the school. The handbook was developed from the handbooks of many other high schools and the school board policy manual of the Odessa School District. Many sections have been approved as to legality. Recommendations include an annual review and revision of the handbook by a committee made up of faculty, administration, parents, school board and students.

It includes information about officers, leadership skills and techniques, basic parliamentary procedure, project planning and time lines, budgeting, and planning a dance. Hoquiam High School has had no centralized source for information on athletic procedures and policies. Because of differences in schedules, much time has been wasted by the Athletic Director in distributing information, and by coaches in seeking answers to specific questions. A coaching manual has been compiled to provide a single source of accurate information for the coaches. Information included is taken from state law, W.I.A.A. regulations, Black Hills League by-laws, and school policy.

A set of worksheets were created to supplement high school geometry textbooks. The worksheet~ focus on the needs and abilities of the average or below average high school geometry students. The supplement consists of additional problems in areas where books are lacking, proofs with some of the statements or reasons filled in, and review problems.

Basic Living Skills Curriculum For Special Needs Students At The Secondary Level, Pamela Sue Hardy

This curriculum provides guidelines to aid secondary regular home economic and special education teachers in preparing special needs students for independent living. The project included units on cooking skills, money management, and family planning. Each unit was sequenced into skills and included a pretest/posttest, suggested learning activities, monitoring procedures, and possible resources. A follow-up evaluation form, to be filled out by the teachers and students that utilize this course design, will measure the success of the project.

On July 31, 1979, the Yakima School Board of School District 7, Yakima, Washington, approved a graduation policy change increasing the total number of credits required from forty-eight to sixty-six. This change required that eighteen credits be transferred from grade nine of the junior high school setting. This study attempts to assess the impact of the change upon the performance and attitudes of ninth grade students. Indications are that students accepted the changes positively, felt they were working harder, and, in two schools showed a decrease in the failure rate.
