The Importance Of Theatre In Secondary Education, Monica L. Franzen

Undergraduate Student Work

With the many cutbacks in the educational system, school administrators are struggling with the decision of what co-curricular and extracurricular areas should be cut or reduced and what should remain unchanged. What should be kept or cut from the fine arts has been a controversial issue in schools for many years. It still remains a critical problem today and in the near future, faces the chance of elimination from the curriculum.

Theatre is important in the educational system. I base my argument on my own perceptions, various texts, and through personal interviews. Many of the interviewees reinforced or extended my …

A great deal of research has been conducted on the relationship of cooperative, competitive, and individualistic efforts and instructional methods (Johnson, Johnson & Holubec, 1988). Johnson and his associates in 1981 (as cited by Wood, 1987) revealed that instruction focusing on cooperation and collaboration resulted in significant gains in achievement, self-esteem and social development. Enrollment Of Girls In Industrial Arts Courses From 1977-82 In Iowa High Schools, Ronald A, Wunderlich

Girls have enrolled in high school industrial arts classes for many years. In a thesis completed in 1958 (Haynes, 1958), it was recorded that 16 percent of Iowa's high schools enrolled girls in industrial arts courses. Today, it is a rare exception to find a high school industrial arts program that does not enroll girls. From district to district and year to year the numbers vary. It is the intention of this study to determine if the enrollment of girls is decreasing, increasing, or remaining constant. This information is needed to provide a further understanding of the enrollment of girls …
