Human Trafficking, Rodrigo Fajardo
Human Trafficking, Rodrigo Fajardo
Nebraska College Preparatory Academy: Senior Capstone Projects
Human trafficking is a rampant crime around the globe. Men, women and children are trafficked in this dirty activity. The scale of women and children trafficking is vast but it is challenging to put a figure on the actual number of women and children trafficked all over the world. The crime of human trafficking is very secretive and remains a hidden activity. Many cases of human trafficking are not reported, while many of those reported are untraced. Women and children are the easiest victims of human trafficking due to their vulnerability, making them an easy target for traffickers.

Gender bias affects the teaching in young girls. The development of gender behavior has been passed down from generation to generation. The issue is that there are double standards in how gender bias affects women professionally, academically, and socially. Current efforts by many women have started to correct this learned behavior. More and more people are becoming aware of the issue, but some do nothing to try to change it. In a book by Anne Helen Petersen, Serena Williams is viewed as being “too strong” and that her body is “too masculine” and does not match the body of a …

Intelligent Design And Darwinian Evolution, Raul Sanchez
Nebraska College Preparatory Academy: Senior Capstone Projects
Darwinian Evolution has many fundamental flaws that are only being discussed in the technical papers and yet it’s portrayed as an unequivocal theory. Intelligent Design is being censored In Academia and represented poorly in public media. Even with leading scientists at the forefront of discovery and logical reasoning Intelligent Design is portrayed as a religious way of infiltrating the science classroom but in reality its far from it. Ultimately it comes down to what the evidence points to and if it points to God then let it be so.

In the United States, homosexual students face an increased rate of hardships that contribute to becoming homeless more often than their heterosexual counterparts which starts their disadvantages in society. These disadvantages include the lack of access to education, counseling, and of course a set home. LGBTQ students are at higher suicide rates, dropout rates, and less successful compared to heterosexuals which is all compared with the fact that they were homeless at one point in their life. The best way to battle this stigma against homosexuals would be to help spread awareness of the situation and from there begin to …

What are the differences of being "left-brain" dominant and "right-brain" dominant. Would being one or the other make public education easier for some? That’s the answer that is being sought after. This is important because it can help prove to people that the way we do public education now isn’t good for everyone.

Ethical Acceptance Of Drone Usaga, Maliik Jones
Nebraska College Preparatory Academy: Senior Capstone Projects
Drones are currently not ethically accepted everywhere in the world, even illegal to use in some places. There are many different uses for drones, many are harmless and positive to the community. But the reason places are hesitant to allow them are due to the violent acts drones are used for. There are some countries who allow restricted use of the drones, I believe with more knowledge this should be a worldwide acceptance. As the technology advancements that drones provide outweigh the negatives that could possibly happen. This presentation will cover the laws that have been put into place, along …

Schools also seem to neglect certain aspects of their students' lives, such as their mental health. This research looks at surveys, journals and articles, to learn more about just a few areas in which the public school system seems to be lacking, …

Culturally Collaborative Teaching: A Path Toward Black Student Learning, J. Love Benton
Antioch University Dissertations & Theses
Inservice teachers’ influence and power are vital components for academic success among Black children. Previous research has shown that when teacher/student interactions are culturally responsive, engaging, and equitable, student learning is positively impacted (Banks, 2001; Gay, 2010; Ladson-Billings, 2011; Sleeter, 2000; Warren, 2018). However, equity gaps between Black and White k-12 students continue to exist within classroom settings (Grant & Sleeter, 2012; Ladson-Billings, 2018). Using a mixed-method approach that includes Repertory Grid Technique underpinned by Personal Construct theory to identify the teaching perceptions of inservice teachers, I gathered data that indicate how k-12 teachers understand what enables Black students to …

In 2005 Clark, Ayton, Frechette, and Keller (2005) conducted a content analysis study on secondary world history textbooks to determine whether women’s inclusion had increased or decreased between 1960s, 1980s, and 1990s. They reported women’s severe marginalization in the texts even though the percentages of women’s inclusion had increased over the course of the decades. We conducted a replication study of the content analysis performed by Clark et al. from a feminist research lens and analyzed 2000 and 2010 editions of the same textbooks to determine if female inclusion had increased. Our findings revealed that very little to no progress …

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
Chronic absenteeism has significant implications for both the individual student and society at large and has been receiving attention for over a century. Every school day counts. Regular attendance provides students with opportunities to learn and has a strong link to achievement. Conversely, poor attendance has serious implications for high school students. For each subgroup of students there is a similar pattern: the likelihood of chronic absenteeism increases as students progress through high school. Notably, the U.S. Department of Education found English learners experience higher chronic absenteeism than their non-English learner peers when they reach high school. Furthermore, compared to …

Understanding The Language Experiences And Motivations Of Deaf Adolescent Latino Struggling Readers, Melissa Herzig
JADARA
Current American methods for educating Deaf adolescent Latino struggling readers need to change in order to maximize learning opportunities. This begins with identifying student strengths and building on them to help students gain new and productive skills. It is imperative to understand Deaf students’ socio-cultural backgrounds, interests, needs, and values through ethnographic research in order to identify what motivates these Latino Deaf adolescents to read. This information could guide teachers and specialists in redesigning and tailoring instruction for these students.
