Reimagining Career Services' Role In International Students' Higher-Education-To-U.S.-Work Transition, Evan W. Faidley
New York Journal of Student Affairs
International students’ job search experience encompasses cultural and learning experiences from home and host country living. The higher education-to-work transition of international students to meet their career goal in working in the United States requires attention of both international students and higher education administrators. This literature review explores the intersection of the international student experience, their career development, and the advising/support received by career services professionals. A clearer understanding of international students through a six-dimension binary cultural lens (Hofstede, 2011) affords professionals the knowledge and work with students’ existing understanding of home and host cultural norms and job seeking.

Our world’s needs are rapidly shifting due to technology and innovation. Yet is education changing to appropriately prepare students? Are students even interested in pursuing an education oriented around science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)? Dominant theorists in this arena have been Jacqueline Eccles and Allan Wigfield with Situated Expectancy Value Theory (SEVT) and Robert Lent and Steven Brown with Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT). Monitoring Learning
A critical element for aligning assessments to the UIS eligibility criteria is mapunderstanding minimum proficiency levels (MPLs) in reading and mathematics. The Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Centre, in collaboration with the UIS, has defined clear MPL benchmarks and developed a blueprint for assessment for the 3 educational stages under SDG 4.1.1. This presentation shared the definition and blueprint with key stakeholders at the 11th meeting of the Global Alliance to Monitor Learning in Paris from 25-26 February 2025, to ensure a shared understanding of the criteria needed for meaningful global reporting.

This report presents the findings of research on education system resilience in Samoa during and immediately following the COVID-19 pandemic in order to build a deeper understanding of policies and practices in place, and what lessons can be drawn to support system-wide adjustments to mitigate future school disruptions. Data included case studies of practice, student assessment data and secondary data analysis of the 2018-2021 PILNA surveys for Samoa. In this autoethnographical reflective essay, the author recounts his struggles and micro-victories with integrating brief meditation with undergraduates at a private college. The reflection offers three major insights for other faculty considering sharing meditation in higher education.

In the pandemic- and post-pandemic era, new as well as exacerbated work-life stressors have led academia to recognize the vital role wellness plays in teaching and learning. While most institutional and pedagogical response has understandably focused on students’ holistic health, this essay promotes increased instructor self-care as a necessary complement to supporting learners in higher education. By practicing meditative exercises drawn from contemplative pedagogy, faculty and instructional staff can create synergy between mindfulness strategies that we might invite students to try and our own attention to the whole self outside class. East Meets West: Secondary Education Reform In Taiwan: Comparing The Perceptions Of Teachers And Students Between 2011 And 2021, Yee Han Peter Joong, Rose E. Gibbs Ph.D.

This mixed methods study compares how secondary school teachers implemented the 12-year Basic Education Reform in Taiwan in 2011 and 2021. Major sources of were surveys from sample teachers and students in sixteen sample schools. The survey asked how often a teaching or evaluation strategy was used. The conclusions of both studies indicate that teacher-directed lessons (teacher talk and questioning) dominated. The use of student-centred learning (SCL) methods (activities and group work) was limited. However, almost 30% of the sample students in both studies stated that the behaviour of students in the classroom was affecting their work. A major obstacle …

Research is robust in detailing the various reasons teachers leave the profession. There is scant literature on why teachers stay and what should be done to improve teacher retention. Teacher retention is a primary concern nationally and internationally. The inability to retain teachers has resulted in a teacher shortage and significantly affects student learning. Sorenson and Ladd (2020) This study yielded three emergent themes related to integral factors of teacher retention: changing attitudes on administrative support, workplace collegiality, and persistence of passion and purpose. In this study, which used a quantitative and correlational approach, the variables influencing Jordanian university students' perceptions of their education under emergency remote learning scenarios were investigated. An online survey was administered to a sample of 765 male and female education stage students. Jordan offers higher education for both genders and at different levels in different regions. Many criteria connected to perceived learning were taken into consideration when administering the study questionnaire. This dissertation explores how culturally sustaining pedagogy and arts-based learning can engage multilingual learners of English as an Additional Language (EAL) in Burkina Faso. The research emphasizes the incorporation of local cultural elements and learners' linguistic backgrounds into the EAL curriculum to address challenges such as limited classroom interactions (Somé-Guiebré, 2020) and monolingual instructional strategies with inadequate cultural representation (Ndlangamandla, 2024). This qualitative study integrates culturally relevant materials, including Forum Theater, slam poetry, and griot-style storytelling, to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment. This study aims to develop a Project-Based Flipped Classroom (PjBFC) learning model to enhance geography education students' 4C skills when submitting research projects related to geography and geography education. It also seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of the PjBFC model in improving these skills during the submission of research proposals in the field. The development process follows the ADDIE framework, consisting of assessment, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Two validators validated the PjBFC learning model, along with the learning materials and tools.
