The changing nature of our classrooms in terms of students’ racial population demands an understanding and validation into the different ways in which various ethnocultural and Aboriginal students respond to schools, classroom environments, curricula, and teaching strategies to ensure academic success. This paper is part of a larger study that examines literacy and diversity in relation to the educational challenges in Ontario schools. The focus of this paper is on a qualitative case study involving twenty educators. The study’s findings reveal educators’ articulations with regards to the connections between equity, diversity and multiple literacies.

This paper focuses on the educational efforts being made by the Makushi people of inland Guyana to maintain their culture and language in the face of encroaching development. The paper relates the discussion of the Makushi situation and their educational responses to the development challenges in the small states of the Caribbean. A variety of school governance reform movements directly affected community participation within schools globally during the 1980s and 1990s. This article highlights some of the economic, social, and political undercurrents at the core of this trend. Utilizing historical information as a comparative and dialectic backdrop, the societal and political intricacies interwoven into the recent inception of School Community Councils in Saskatchewan, Canada are explicated. Throughout this article, an overview of the purpose and responsibilities of Saskatchewan’s School Community Councils are compared to and contrasted with the governing persuasion and power of a number of international school councils.

Le présent travail a pour objectif de mesurer et d’analyser l’efficacité des établissements de la formation professionnelle en Tunisie. Pour cela, une méthodologie en deux étapes a été utilisée. La première étape concerne l’estimation de l’efficacité technique par le modèle BCC (1984). La deuxième étape estime l’efficacité allocative en utilisant les modèles des coûts d’ombre: Kumbhakar (1996) et Balk (1997). Les principaux résultats montrent, d’une part, que ces établissements peuvent être classés, par niveau d’efficacité technique, en trois groupes. This article discusses the cost- sharing experiences of 73 Tanzanian female undergraduates who took part in a 1997 study. It also integrated views and suggestions of the 2007 students from the University of Dar es Salaam and Sokoine University of Agriculture, Mazimbu campus. The University of Dar es Salaam was closed in 2007 because First Year students boycotted classes to protest the government’s policy that required them to pay 40% for their higher education. I advocate for partnership in student financing and the introduction of graduate tax for recovering higher education students’ loans.

This Africentric historical inquiry introduces Wangari Maathai, 2004 Nobel Peace Prize recipient and internationally renowned Kenyan activist, as a visionary adult educator and leader of the liberatory environmental movement -The Green Belt Movement. The purpose of this study is to explore teachers’ workplace informal professional learning and inform educational researchers, teacher educators, administrators and teachers about ways teachers learn to improve their practice. By questioning how teachers learn on-the-job to be better teachers and how school cultures position them as learners, this work generates hypotheses about relationships between the nature of workplace informal professional learning and its content and contexts. An ethnographic design based upon a grounded theory generates analytic categories from interviews and field notes through comparison of learning environments in three contrasting schools in two countries—Lithuania and the United States. The 2007 National Civics and Citizenship Sample Assessment report is the second to be published on Civics and Citizenship in the cycle of three-yearly sample assessments conducted by MCEETYA as part of its National Assessment Program (NAP). The assessment measured students’ civic knowledge and understanding and their citizenship participation skills and dispositions. The assessment was conducted in October 2007 with 7,059 Year 6 students from 349 schools and 5,506 Year 10 students from 269 schools participating. The participating students were from both government and non-government schools. Results of the assessment show that nationally, 54 per cent of Year 6 students …
