This capsule on the International History and Philosophy of Andragogy is mainly limited (with a few exceptions) to a chronological history and the accompanying philosophy of andragogy, in line with when the English language documents were published and personal descriptions of events were written down. Some of these documents, however, presents aspect of the events and ideas which recount the years and contexts prior to the time in which they appeared in published form. To date, more than 330 documents have been discovered, but space limitation in this chapter allowed the inclusion of only a fraction of that number. Each …

Creating Sustainable Education Projects In Roatan, Honduras Through Continuous Process Improvement, Arjan Raven, Adriane B. Randolph, Shelli Heil

The investigators worked together with permanent residents of Roatán, Honduras on sustainable initiatives to help improve the island’s troubled educational programs. Our initiatives focused on increasing the number of students eligible and likely to attend a university. Using a methodology based in continuous process improvement, we developed tutoring programs, college preparation workshops, long-term plans for a local school, and solicited involvement by an island educational coalition. Lessons learned from these initiatives may be used to expand other efforts on the island and can be generalized to other programs in Central America.

This Africentric historical inquiry introduces Wangari Maathai, 2004 Nobel Peace Prize recipient and internationally renowned Kenyan activist, as a visionary adult educator and leader of the liberatory environmental movement -The Green Belt Movement. The Movement addresses decades of mis-education through culturally grounded adult education activities that help communities understand the linkages between environmental degradation and poor governance, and educate people to participate in democracy.

There are more international students enrolled in colleges and universities in the U.S. than in any other country as reported by the Institute of International Education. In the 2000/01 school year, the institute estimated that 547,867 international students were studying in the U.S. Most of these students, 302,058 (55%) came from countries in Asia; and 80,584 (14.7%) came from Europe. Latin America had 63,634 (11.6%); followed by the Middle East, with 36,858 (6.7%); Africa, with 34,217 (6.2%); North America, with 25,888 (4.7%), and Oceania, with 4,624 (.8%). Belize Tertiary School Libraries: A Needs-Assessment Survey, Mary Margaret (Peggy) Wright

Having come to the end of a ten-year study of Belize developing libraries, the Belize government asked for a survey of all the tertiary school libraries within the country. The government purpose centered around the number and caliber of staff, book/journal collections, student use and adequacy of the facility housing the collections. When adequacy of any of the above failed criteria, they asked for recommendations for improvement within the eleven schools visited. Thanks to the United States Information Agency’s Academic Specialist Award, the study, followed by training workshops, took place from February 3-6, 1990. Text of the entire study follows.

The Peruvian Education Reform Of 1968-1980 And Seventh-Day Adventist Education At Inca Union College : A Study In Models, Luis Alberto Del Pozo

Problem. The purpose of this study was to compare and contrast two distinct educational models: (1) Peruvian educational reform, which affected both public and private education throughout the country, and (2) the Seventh-day Adventist educational system as represented by Inca Union College. This research was limited geographically to Peru chronologically to the educational reform of 1968 and 1980. After the historical background was established, emphasis was placed on the Peruvian educational reform as a model of innovation as compared with the Seventh-day Adventist model at Inca Union College.
