Factors Influencing The Adoption Of Learning Management Systems By Medical Faculty, Kristy Burrough
Factors Influencing The Adoption Of Learning Management Systems By Medical Faculty, Kristy Burrough
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Despite recommendations by the Association of American Medical Colleges regarding
the adoption of technology in medical universities, faculty are still reluctant to adopt new
learning technologies. The purpose of this qualitative interview study was to determine
the factors existing in the adoption of learning management technology among late
adopters within the faculty of colleges labeled as comprehensive academic medical
centers. Using the Everett Rogers diffusion of innovations theory as its framework, this
study sought to ascertain the factors late adopters identify as preventing them from
adopting technology and to determine what measures they suggest to increase technology
adoption among their …
Promoting Information Literacy Through Teacher - School Library Media Specialist Collaboration, Pamela Denise Taylor
Promoting Information Literacy Through Teacher - School Library Media Specialist Collaboration, Pamela Denise Taylor
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Schools that support collaboration between teachers and school library media specialists (SLMS) outperform those that do not. Teachers at a rural Georgia middle school were not using the library media program or being trained on how to collaborate with the SLMS to promote student achievement. Guided by Bruner's socioconstructivist theory of learning, the purpose of this descriptive case study was to investigate teachers' experiences with integrating technology and information literacy into the curriculum and to examine the collaborative services the SLMS could provide to enhance integration. Eight teachers in Grades 6th through 8th comprised the sample. Data sources included teacher …

A Qualitative Case Study Of Facebook And Its Perceived Impact On Social Connectivity, Janet Staker Woerner
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
While the number of students using web-based social networks has increased, the effects of such networks on education have been unclear. Therefore, this research used a case study approach to study the relationship between social connectivity and the use of Facebook in a higher education classroom as well as the relationship between age and the use of Facebook. The intent was to understand the perceived impact of the use of a social media tool on bonding, bridging, and linking. The conceptual framework was built around the theories of social capital of Lin, Portes, Putnam, and Woolcock. The research questions addressed …

Professional Development For The Use Of Ipads In Instruction, Daphne Marie Poore
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Elementary teachers at a school in the southeastern United States received iPads and iPad training to improve teaching and learning in the content subject areas. Despite the iPad training provided by district technology personnel, teachers expressed a need for more content-specific training. Teachers need adequate and appropriate professional development to assist in preparing integrated computer-based technology instruction to increase student academic achievement. The purpose of this qualitative bounded case study was to explore the descriptions of 10 purposely selected 4th and 5th grade teachers who used iPads in content subjects and 1 instructional technology facilitator who provided district iPad training …
Educators' Perceptions Of A 21st Century Digital Literacy Framework, Stephen Spengler
Educators' Perceptions Of A 21st Century Digital Literacy Framework, Stephen Spengler
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The concept of literacy has expanded to include understanding and effective utilization of information, media, and technology. The Children's Internet Protection Act requires school districts to teach proper online use and behavior. The lack of a technology requirement in a rural, public school district in Northeastern Pennsylvania that meets the needs of 21st century learners and the conditions of the Children's Internet Protection Act was the rationale for the development of this project study. The study's conceptual framework stemmed from theories related to new literacies, multimodality, computer education practices, and millennial learners. The research questions examined educators' perceptions of topics …
Social Studies Teachers' Use Of Twitter And #Edchats For Collaboration, Eric Langhorst
Social Studies Teachers' Use Of Twitter And #Edchats For Collaboration, Eric Langhorst
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Past studies have indicated that teachers in the United States have limited opportunities to collaborate with peers; this limitation has been found to be particularly problematic for social studies teachers. An increasing number of educators are using the social media application Twitter to collaborate. Little research exists concerning social studies teachers' use of #edchats, a weekly recurring Twitter session. The focus of this qualitative case study was the collaboration that exists among social studies teachers participating in Twitter edchats. The theoretical framework was communities of practice. Transcripts of 10 edchat sessions in 2013 were coded with an a priori strategy, …

Probe Method's Impact On Students' Motivation And Critical Thinking Skills, Diane Marie Specht
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The probe method (PM) is a learning model that equips students with essential learning strategies and skills so they can be successful and competitive in a highly diverse technological global workforce. Although research indicates this learning model was successful at the elementary school level with improving students' motivation to learn, their critical thinking skills, and their ability to solve complex problems, little research has examined the impact of this method at the high school level for students who participated in a career and technical education (CTE) program. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to fill a gap in …

While emerging technologies continue to emerge, research into their use in learning contexts often focuses on a subset of educational practices and ways of using technologies. In this study we begin to explore the extent to which educational designs are influenced by larger societal and education-related factors not usually explicitly considered when designing or identifying technology-supported education experiences for research study. We examine patterns within and between factors via a content analysis across ten years and 19 different journals of published peer-reviewed research on technology-supported writing. Our findings have implications for how researchers, designers, and educators approach technology-supported educational design …

Problem
The textbook is the most important resource for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms in Brazil, defining the course to be followed and the teaching and learning processes for language learning. Therefore, it is necessary to understand through an educational perspective the curriculum design employed in the textbook, and the language learning processes used based on the communicative approach, the current favorable approach to English teaching in Brazil. Textbooks writers typically indicate their alignment to the communicative framework. So the problem that exists is the lack of studies on the approaches and processes used in the construction of …

Are They Simply Interested? An Exploration Of Engineering Students' Most Favorite Classes, Dazhi Yang, Louis S. Nadelson, Kimberly Hardy
Educational Technology Faculty Publications and Presentations
This work in progress explores how instructional strategies and technology use were related to engineering students' affinity toward a class. Instructional strategies, such as contextual problem-based learning and teamwork, can increase student interest in a topic. Additionally using different technological tools affects student interest and learning. However, instructors can be challenged to encourage and maintain student interest, which makes this study worthwhile to pursue. To our knowledge, there is a dearth of engineering education research exploring the relationship between instructional technology, instructional strategies, and engineering students' course favoritism. This study aims to fill this gap by identifying effective instructional strategies …

Teaching is not just delivering lectures but anything we might do that helps and encourages students to learn.
Envision your typical business law or legal environment of business classroom, filled with students. As class begins, most students are alert and attentive to the instructor. However, after class is under way, some students have diverted their attention elsewhere. A few are looking intently at their laptop screens, which contain material that may (or may not) be related to business law. Others are looking at their phones. While many are still listening to the instructor, a few might be whispering to neighbors, …
