This study investigated the effect of corrective feedback loops upon achievement and attitudes of teacher education students who completed an interactive videodisc program on mastery learning. The purpose of the investigation was to determine if corrective feedback and required mastery of sequential instructional units would improve achievement and attitudes of learners. iii A posttest-only control-group design with randomization was used in this study. Subjects were recruited from classes in the departments of Elementary Education, Special Education, and Curriculum, Instruction, and Media Technology at Indiana State University during the Spring semester, 1993. A hypermedia database including selected flora and fauna in Kittitas County, Washington, was developed using HyperCard software for researching information about 400+ species. students had the opportunity to use the database in school libraries and in the author's fifth-grade classroom. The database cards accessed videodisc images where available. On the basis of limited study to date, it appears that when studying the environment, student learning was enhanced by the use of database material created by the author.

A study was conducted to determine whether computer assisted instruction or the traditional ESL teaching method was more effective in teaching Limited English Proficient (LEP) students, English language proficiency. Twenty-two second grade subjects were separated into two groups at one elementary school in Yakima, Washington. The experimental group received computer assisted ESL instruction, while the control group was instructed with the traditional ESL teaching method. Analysis of the results supported the research hypotheses for one of the three dependent variables. The null hypothesis could not be rejected for a second variable, while for a third variable, a significant difference was …

The High School Completion Lab setting for Washington State History students, whose pre-project assignment for two hours a day, three days a week, involved reading the selected text, Northwest Heritage by William Scofield, and answering Chapter Questions, met state requirements but seemed unnecessarily sterile. It was hoped that the production of videotaped lessons which could be presented either to groups of H.S. 016 students or to individuals would, if well-made, provide the class with an enriched perspective of Washington State History.

There is a need in many communities for materials and management guidelines for developing community-wide drug abuse prevention efforts that have a clear focus of intent. This project plans to fill that need by producing a sequence of video tape lessons with accompanying workbooks that will direct fifth graders and their families in learning experiences to reduce the drug abuse risk. I will draw from my own experience as well as provide various viewpoints on dyslexia given by neurologists, therapists, special education teachers, and adults with problems that stem from dyslexia.
