The Black Bears open the season with just one senior and two juniors on the roster. The majority of the team will be comprised of sophomores and freshmen (six).

Maine finished 12-16 during the 2005-06 season after key injuries to several Black Bears. The University of Maine men's basketball team travels to Boston this weekend for the Choice Hotels International Amelica East Championship Tournament. The Black Bears received a fourth seed in the tournament after falling to Hartford, 70-58, in the final regular season game. UMaine will face the No. 5 seed, Northeastern, in the second game of the first session of quarterfinals.

The goal is simple at the University of Maine. The Black Bears are pursuing their first America East Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. While the Black Bears fell short of those goals a year ago, Coach Giannini's team set a school record for league wins ( 13) and tied the University mark for overall wins (19). After two seasons of being a contender. the Black Bears are primed for the final step to a North Atlantic Conference Championship and an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
