The Mediating Role Of Dietary Patterns On The Relation Between Acculturation, Psychosocial Factors, And Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factors In The U.S. - Mexico Border, Ximena Burgos

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Chronic diseases affect both, developed and developing countries around the world. In the U.S., cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of death for all groups including Hispanics (Heron, 2009). Hispanics are disproportionally affected by CVD and experience risk factors at higher rates than non-Hispanic whites (Swenson, 2002). Although CVD are among the most expensive and widespread health problems, they are among the most preventable. Evidence shows that diet plays a very important role in the development of chronic diseases; current dietary changes are partially responsible for the increasing epidemic of chronic diseases worldwide. A Curriculum Design For The Incorporation Of Adventure Education Into Secondary School Health Education To Achieve Lifelong Wellness, Brenda J. Weis

All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects

This Alternate Plan Paper is a curriculum design for the incorporation of adventure education into secondary school health education to achieve lifelong wellness. Several schools have already established adventure-based programs in courses other than health education which have proven to be highly effective and successful (Hopkins and Putnam, 1993; Moore, 1986; Siedentop, Mand, and Taggart, 1986). For example, many physical education classes include outdoor adventure activities as a curricular alternative for conventional sports and games. However, at this time, there is no conclusive evidence that an adventure education program has been integrated into a health education curriculum.

Therefore, the intent …

Spiritual Health: Association For The Advancement Of Health Education Instructors' Attitudes, Practices And Training, Susanne Meyer Christopher Jan 1995

Spiritual Health: Association For The Advancement Of Health Education Instructors' Attitudes, Practices And Training, Susanne Meyer Christopher

Dissertations and Theses

Health education uses a holistic, multi-dimensional perspective (Hoyman, 1961; Donatelle, 1991; Hales, 1992). In recent years an emergent issue in health education is concern for disproportionate representation among the human dimensions--emotional, social, physical, intellectual, spiritual. Discussion occurs over the apparent underrepresentation of spiritual health in health education materials (Chandler & Kolander, 1990). While the professional literature contains articles discussing the under-representation of spiritual health (Jose & Taylor, 1986; Bensley, 1991), no empirical studies are available to assess the current status of spiritual health in health education materials or the spiritual health attitudes of health educators. This study provides empirical data …

Curriculum Development Project In Health Education For Lyle School District No. 406; Scope And Sequence For Kindergarten Through Twelfth Grade And Curriculum Guide For Ninth Grade Health, James A. Titus

Small school districts rarely have curriculum direction, let alone curriculum guides. This writer has often overheard staff members exclaim, "It would help so much if I knew what I am supposed to teach," or "It would be nice if there was some planned progression that students were exposed to."
