The Influence Of Favorable Context On Questionnaire Response, John M. Peterson Dec 1976

The Influence Of Favorable Context On Questionnaire Response, John M. Peterson

Health, Exercise, and Sports Sciences ETDs

Previous research has shown that the responses to items in a test of the affective domain are not affected by context when the items are embedded in different random subtests. Other studies in the affective domain show that the mean responses of items are influenced by the favorableness item compositions of the subtests. In multiple matrix samples, subtests of an entire test are taken by subgroups of a population. The influence of favorableness item composition on the total score of a given dimension in the affective domain has not been studied. This study offers evidence toward the following questions: (1) …

Potential Physical Educator's Perception Of The Role Of Physical Education, Marc Mauseth

Health, Exercise, and Sports Sciences ETDs

This study was conducted for the purpose of gathering information in order to better understand the perception of the role of physical education held by those students in teacher preparation programs in physical education. Based upon a review of the literature and informed speculation, a questionnaire was formulated which gathered data from seven independent variable groups and about students' perceptions of fourteen different roles for physical education.

The questionnaire was completed by 349 students at the University of New Mexico, Ohio State University, State University of New York at Brockport, and the University of Oregon, enrolled in required professional courses …

Modifying Behavoirs Of Patients With Known Essential Hypertension, Carolyn E. Maller Jul 1976

Modifying Behavoirs Of Patients With Known Essential Hypertension, Carolyn E. Maller

Health, Exercise, and Sports Sciences ETDs

The phenomenon of patient noncompliance with hypertensive treatment regimes is clearly documented and detrimental to optimal treatment and control of hypertension. This study represented an effort to add yet another approach to the problem of noncompliance. The central question formulated for this study was: can a program of behavior modification, applied in a clinical setting, increase knowledge and change behavior significantly to comply with hypertensive regimes? A Hypertension Clinic was organized and conducted over three months. A total of thirty-three hypertensive patients comprised three groups: one attention-placebo group, one experimental group and one control group. Group sizes were sixteen, thirteen …

The Relationship Between Body Fat And Physical Well-Being Of Children, Aged Six To Thirteen, As Determined By Physical Activity And Physical Fitness, Paul Sieczkowski Jul 1976

The Relationship Between Body Fat And Physical Well-Being Of Children, Aged Six To Thirteen, As Determined By Physical Activity And Physical Fitness, Paul Sieczkowski

Student Work

Body fat has several implications for an individual's physical well-being. Aside from its functional aspects as an energy reserve and as a thermal insulator, excess body fat has been related to an increased mortality rate (Dublin, 1930). Vitale (1973) and deVries (1974) emphasized that excess fat is associated with many degenerative diseases such as diabetes, gallstones, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Mayer (1953) noted that there might be seasonal changes in the body fat level due to changes in activity level. Johnson, Burke,, and Mayer (1956) traced the onset of obesity of most "late obesity" children to the winter …

The Effect Of Two Athletic Training Programs On Aerobic Capacity, Anaerobic Capacity, Reaction Time, And Percent Body Fat, Paul W. Petersen Jul 1976

The Effect Of Two Athletic Training Programs On Aerobic Capacity, Anaerobic Capacity, Reaction Time, And Percent Body Fat, Paul W. Petersen

Student Work

It is perhaps obvious that athletic teams, such as basketball and wrestling, use different conditioning programs during the regular season of competition because of the nature of their sports. Although many coaches initiate particular programs and use them year after year, rarely do they have any definite measurements concerning the effects of the program on their athletes other than a win-loss record. To better understand the conditioning that takes place in various sports, in this study, several parameters of fitness were calculated-using the basketball and wrestling teams at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The measurements will indicate the change …

The Effect Of Planned Physical Activities On Deficient Motor Skills In Head Start Preschool Children, Darlene L. Robinson Jun 1976

The Effect Of Planned Physical Activities On Deficient Motor Skills In Head Start Preschool Children, Darlene L. Robinson

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

During the past few years many physicians, nurses, psychologists, teachers, and physical educators have begun to place more emphasis upon the developmental problems of children. As an outgrowth of this, more attention has been given the child showing mild to moderate motor problems. As a result of these more subtle difficulties going unrecognized and untreated, children may suffer from learning disorders, lack of acceptance by teachers and peers, maladaptive behavior and feelings of low self-esteem (Cratty, 1970; Kiphard, -1970; and Ferinden, 1972).

The purpose of this study was to ascertain whether planned physical activities would aid in remediation and/or modification …

Curriculum Development Project In Health Education For Lyle School District No. 406; Scope And Sequence For Kindergarten Through Twelfth Grade And Curriculum Guide For Ninth Grade Health, James A. Titus

All Graduate Projects

Small school districts rarely have curriculum direction, let alone curriculum guides. This writer has often overheard staff members exclaim, "It would help so much if I knew what I am supposed to teach," or "It would be nice if there was some planned progression that students were exposed to." Small school districts usually cannot afford the luxury of specialized curriculum staff working on curriculum projects.

This writer, along with two other staff members was fortunate to attend a health education workshop sponsored by ESD No. 112 in the fall of 1974. A process of curriculum development for health education was …

Two Parallel Studies Investigating The Immediate And Longitudinal Attitude Values Of College Women Toward Elective Physical Activity, Rebecca Marie Lang Jan 1976

Two Parallel Studies Investigating The Immediate And Longitudinal Attitude Values Of College Women Toward Elective Physical Activity, Rebecca Marie Lang

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

This parallel investigation was conducted to survey and to determine the immediate and longitudinal attitude values in selected college women following participation in elective physical activity classes. The expressed attitudes were measured by a modified Carlos L. Wear Physical Education Attitude Inventory adapted for use in this present study by the investigator.

Four experimental groups were chosen according to the cluster sampling technique, representing two life-time sport course offerings of badminton and women's fitness. Seventeen women enrolled in the fall fitness class and fourteen women in the fall badminton classes, comprised the longitudinal sample for this study. The spring semester …
