Coaching Efficacy With Academic Leaders: A Phenomenological Investigation, Deanna Lee Vansickel-Peterson

The purpose of this psychological phenomenological research was to understand the efficacy of life coaching from the perspective of academic leaders. To date, not one investigation or attempt has been made towards the above stated purpose. This study includes a theoretical overview and a review of the coaching literature from Socrates (469-399 BC) to current day Humanistic theory presented in part by Roger (1902-1987). This process included data collection from five academic leaders who have been coached for at least two years. At one time, academic inquiries into the relationship between socioeconomic class and language acquisition were commonplace, but the past 20 years have seen a decrease in work that focuses on the intersection between class and early language learning. Recently, however, against the backdrop of the No Child Left Behind legislation in the United States (which has been criticized as a culturally biased education policy that, through highstakes testing and broad-based, uniform curricula, discounts the value of non-standard home language varieties largely spoken by working-class children), there has been renewed interest in the relationship between class, language use, and the assessment …

Problems Of Clothing Elementary School Age Children In Families Of Low- And Middle-Socioeconomic Status In Muhlenberg County, Kentucky: Comparisons And Recommendations, Kay Grise

Home Economics and Family Living Theses

The study was designed to determine the problems that low and middle socioeconomic status families have in clothing their elementary school-age children. Comparisons were made of the consumer buying attitudes and practices of mothers of elementary school-age children from middle-and low-socioeconomic status families in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. Differences between the groups were measured on a 92- item Likert scale questionnaire on the variables-planned buying, appropriateness, conformity, labeling, faulty merchandise, care, serviceability, comfort, and versatility. One-way analysis of variance was used to determine significant differences. The middle socioeconomic group indicated a more knowledgeable attitude on all the scales. Data from personal …

The Kathryn Summers Powell Papers consist of Dr. Powell’s professional and organizational files and includes correspondence, drafts and revisions of her speeches and dissertation, biographical data, and teaching notes with reference material. The collection pertains to Dr. Powell’s work as a Winthrop faculty member, scholar and specialist in family and child development and her involvement with such organizations as the Christian Children’s Fund and the Southeastern Council on Family Relations. The material extends from Dr. Powell’s days as a student and young wife in Florida (1940-1959), with most of the substantive material extending from 1960 to 1976.

The birth rate in the United States has been declining over the past years from a peak reached in 1957. It is apparent that during the past twenty years increasing numbers of couples have made decisions to limit family size; moreover, the decisions could be easily and effectively implemented with use of modern contraceptive methods. Tubal ligations and vasecetomy have further served to implement decisions to end fertility permanently for millions of couples. In recent years, legal abortion has extended the decision period beyond the point of conception.
