The rate of overweight and obesity among adolescents aged 12-19 years has more than tripled since 1980, and disproportionately impacts low-income and marginalized populations. Reduction in adolescent obesity rates may result in decreased health risks, decrease healthcare costs, and increased quality of life. Effective intervention methods for adolescent participants have incorporated nutrition knowledge and culinary skill building into afterschool programs. This study examines whether building knowledge, skills, and confidence through a culinary intervention can improve adolescent participants’ choices of healthful foods through increased fruit and vegetable intake.

This paper analyzes the consequences of changes in the unemployment rate in Colombia on the level of education attained for adolescents. Increases in the unemployment rate are associated with an increase in the average number of years of education. No significant effect was found for men of the same age.

This study examines the interconnectedness of social networks of the early adopter Family and Consumer Science Extension Agents (FCS Agents) of the Mental Healthiness and Aging Initiative (MHAI) pilot conducted in eleven (11) eastern Kentucky counties between October 2007 and April 2009 and compares the social network connections of the FCS Agents in the other six Extension Districts in Kentucky.

Studies have found that between 80 and 90 percent of home economics teachers use commercially sponsored teaching materials in their classrooms. The literature suggests that in some cases teachers do not have the skills for evaluating these materials and may be unsuspectingly endorsing the products used in their classrooms. This paper presents curriculum guidelines prepared for the revised family life program at Wilson Junior High School in Yakima, Washington. The guidelines were designed for teaching a course in Teen Living to all eighth grade students, girls for two tri-mesters and boys for one tri-mester. Teen Living precedes a course in Family Living open to all ninth grade students on an elective basis. Family Living will be taught on a coeducational basis beginning with the 1972-73 school year.

Pupil transportation is coming to be considered an indispensable service in the West Virginia school systems. In the year 1941-42 more than 132,885 pupils were transported to and from West Virginia schools daily. This was an increase of 77,886 over the number transported in 1932-33 or an increase of about 8,660 annually.

The average daily attendance in the public elementary and secondary schools of West Virginia for the year 1941-42 and 395, 065 which shows that 33.63 per cent of all the pupils attending the public school were transported at public expense. The sum of $2,142,943.40 was spent for transportation, …
