Eldercare Benefits : A Comparison Of Employee And Employer Attitudes, Michelle R. Hilton

The purpose of the study was to compare employee and employer attitudes regarding the helpfulness of eldercare benefits and the degree to which employers should take responsibility for helping employees with eldercare responsibilities. Subjects included 256 employees and 102 employers from Eastern South Dakota. Results revealed a significant difference between employee and employer attitudes regarding the eldercare benefits considered most beneficial. Employees reported a greater degree of helpfulness in benefits than employers. The results also demonstrated a significant difference between employers and employees on the degree to which employers should take responsibility for employee's eldercare commitments.

Quicksand Craft Center: Documentation & Analysis Of A Handweaving Program In Vest, Kentucky, Deborah Champion

Data on the handweaving program at the Quicksand Craft Center in the Appalachian Mountains of Eastern Kentucky were compiled and analyzed. Four areas--history of the craft program, business organization and financial structure, weave patterns of goods woven and sold by the craft center, and weavers employed in the program --were examined to assess the success of the program in the local community. Factors in the four areas examined contributed to the success of the program. Energy-efficient designs in clothing, interior architecture and furnishings were evaluated (a) to assess consumers’ attitudes toward the designs, (b) to compare acceptability levels of participants who were knowledgeable in the home energy field with those who were less knowledgeable and (c) to determine if consumers had a preference for using housing, clothing or furnishings in meeting their thermal comfort needs. Four designs generated by the University of Tennessee-Energy Design competition were evaluated: a leisure outfit, a lounging dress, a water-storage collector (room divider and coffee tables) and a solar waterbed. One dressmaker, Mrs. A. H. Taylor of Bowling Green, Kentucky, was studied in order to draw attention to the role of the dressmaker in American fashion. A biography of Mrs. A. H. Taylor and the business history were compiled; available designs were analyzed in relation to current fashion; and an investigation of the business organization was made. It was found that the dressmaking establishment played an important role in the lives of women of that time period. Fashionable custom fit clothing was made available to local residents and to mail-order customers. The establishment was one of the few businesses which …

Students entering college as freshmen have very diversified backgrounds; thus, students enrolled in beginning clothing construction courses vary widely in their knowledge and application of techniques in clothing construction. Students enrolled in this course may include those with little or no experience in the learnings and application of construction principle as well as those with knowledge and abilities in clothing construction comparable to students having completed the beginning clothing course.

This thesis, submitted to Xavier University in partial fulfillment of requirements for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics in 1931, examines the household budget as a system for managing family income during a period of national economic crisis. Pepin opens by surveying contemporary economic theories offered to explain the ongoing depression, including overproduction, unequal distribution, and capitalization theories, before turning to the household as a unit affected by broader economic conditions.

The thesis defines the budget as one stage within a larger financial organization process encompassing planning, record-keeping, and periodic review, and argues that no fixed formula for …
