As teachers learn to adjust to the Common Core State Standards, they are left with little to no time for subjects like science and social studies. History is slowly falling by the wayside in elementary classrooms across the country, including the studies of the people who helped shape our nation. This study analyzes a data sample of 32 primary and intermediate level trade books about George Washington, our first president, in search of patterns and misrepresentations. The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program [IB PYP] is a student-driven, inquiry-based elementary school level educational program that has grown rapidly in the United States since its creation in 1997. This study explores how IB PYP art teachers define and implement inquiry-based instructional methods in their art rooms through a nation-wide, online survey of art teachers, coordinators, and administrators. The Survey consists of 22 questions which ask respondents to describe their classroom practices and provide examples of how they make use of inquiry-based methods in the art room. This project highlights best practices for small reading group instruction for third through fifth grade English language learners in the general education classroom. By completing a literature review, a journal article was developed to report the pros and cons of heterogeneous and homogeneous groupings for reading instruction. Data from the National Assessment for Educational Progress (NAEP) and the OSPI Report Card were used to discuss a need to raise student reading proficiency scores.

As schools are adopting the whole child approach, it is important to examine how the approach impacts academic success. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a school-based mindfulness curriculum on student reading scores and classroom engagement. Using a multiple baseline design, this study examined the rate of improvement in reading scores and academic engagement in elementary students receiving a mindfulness curriculum. The curriculum was introduced in addition to the regular curriculum in 15-minute lessons twice a week. from a Midwestern suburban middle school district during the fall of the 2017-2018

การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ 1) เพื่อศึกษาความเชื่อเชิงปรัชญาการศึกษาของนิสิตนักศึกษาครู สาขาวิชาประถมศึกษา 2) เพื่อศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างความเชื่อเชิงปรัชญาการศึกษากับพฤติกรรมการสอนของนิสิตนักศึกษาครู สาขาวิชาประถมศึกษา และ 3) เพื่อสังเคราะห์แนวทางการหล่อหลอมความเชื่อเชิงปรัชญาการศึกษาของนิสิตนักศึกษาครู สาขาวิชาประถมศึกษา มีแบบแผนการวิจัยเป็นวิจัยแบบผสมผสาน ประกอบด้วย การวิจัยเชิงปริมาณและการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ กลุ่มตัวอย่างการวิจัยเชิงปริมาณ คือ นิสิตนักศึกษาครูชั้นปีที่ 5 สาขาวิชาประถมศึกษา จำนวน 274 คน โดยใช้วิธีการสุ่มแบบหลายขั้นตอน เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยคือ แบบสอบถาม กลุ่มตัวอย่างการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ คือ อาจารย์มหาวิทยาลัยประจำสาขาวิชาประถมศึกษา วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยการหาค่าเฉลี่ย ค่าร้อยละ ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน และหาค่าสัมประสิทธิ์สหสัมพันธ์ ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1) ความเชื่อเชิงปรัชญาการศึกษาของนิสิตนักศึกษาครู สาขาวิชาประถมศึกษามีแนวโน้มไปทางความเชื่อเชิงปรัชญาการศึกษาพิพัฒนนิยมมากที่สุด อันดับรองลงมา ได้แก่ อัตถิภาวนิยม นิรันตรนิยม ปฏิรูปนิยม และสารัตถนิยม ตามลำดับ 2) ความเชื่อเชิงปรัชญาการศึกษาในแต่ละสาขาของนิสิตนักศึกษาครู สาขาวิชาประถมศึกษาไม่มีความสัมพันธ์กับพฤติกรรมการสอนตามแนวความเชื่อเชิงปรัชญาการศึกษาในสาขาเดียวกัน นอกจากนี้ยังพบว่า ความเชื่อเชิงปรัชญาการศึกษาปฏิรูปนิยม มีความสัมพันธ์ในทางบวกกับพฤติกรรมการสอนตามแนวความเชื่อเชิงปรัชญาการศึกษาสารัตถนิยมอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .05 และความเชื่อเชิงปรัชญาการศึกษาอัตถิภาวนิยม มีความสัมพันธ์ในทางลบกับพฤติกรรมการสอนตามแนวความเชื่อเชิงปรัชญาการศึกษาสารัตถนิยมอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .01 และ 3) พบว่า มีการนำแนวคิดทางปรัชญาการศึกษาพิพัฒนนิยมมาเป็นแนวทางในการจัดการศึกษา โดยหล่อหลอมผ่านกิจกรรมการลงมือปฏิบัติจริง ผลที่เกิดขึ้นส่วนใหญ่สอดคล้องกับปรัชญาของหลักสูตรและความคาดหวังของรายวิชา ซึ่งถือว่าได้ผลสำเร็จในภาพรวม

This study explores process of selecting picture books influenced by child reader’s identity. 44 second-grade students’ responses about picture book selection were collected by sign response gathering test and focused student interviews. The child readers showed diverse preferences on components of picture book’s cover. The perspectives of participants were largely derived from their identity formed by gender-separated peer groups, especially for boys: the boys selected books on the basis of their gender-biased beliefs compared with girls. This case study examines a Chinese and Korean-Chinese pre-service teachers’ perceptions of their mentor teachers’ role in supporting inclusive practicum experiences in U.S. elementary school contexts. The findings demonstrate that a mentor teacher’s open conversations and willingness to host those students bring positive influence on their learning and growth. The findings also indicate that the facilitative roles of mentor teachers in the promotion of inclusive environments are intersected with the socio-cultural and political contexts of practicum schools and universities. This study analyzed students' use of diverse sources for a history-based writing assignment on Abraham Lincoln. Participants includes 41 students in a fifth grade self-contained classroom in rural Illinois. The study was conducted during students' 30-minute writing period, every day for six weeks. During this time period, students close-read trade books and primary sources to collect research on Lincoln. Students also gathered additional information during their field trip to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. Students synthesized their information from the various sources and organized the notes to write an informational, history-based writing piece on Lincoln. Students were required …
