Teacher praise is a strategy that effectively reduces student disruptive and off-task behavior. Although teacher praise has been studied for more than five decades, most research has looked at general and behavior specific praise. There may be other aspects of praise, beyond specificity, that could inform consultation. Many middle school students are considered at-risk due to attendance, lower levels of academic achievement, and behavior referrals. Mentoring programs have been in effect for decades and continue to yield positive results. The purpose of the study is to determine if fourth and fifth grade at-risk students are impacted by mentoring. The researcher seeks to determine if mentoring increases students’ attendance, increases math and reading test scores, and decreases the amount of behavior referrals. This paper explored the history of education, including how the focus has evolved into the current demand for a qualified workforce, and the practices of retention and social promotion. Grade level retention research examined the positive and negative impacts on students, as well as alternative intervention approaches. An in-depth study of an early intervention program, KinderQuest, was conducted to determine the relationship between students’ reading and math achievement. It is common knowledge that middle- and upper-class parents tend to disfavor urban public schools, and often move to suburbs in order to avoid having to send their children to those schools. This dissertation reports on how one school community engaged in a professional development grant initiative that incorporated teacher leadership. Teacher leaders may have numerous roles and responsibilities that support the professional learning and instructional practices of school communities. This study examined the experiences of three specialized literacy professionals as teacher leaders and professional development facilitators. Case study methodology (Merriam, 1998; Stake, 2005; Yin, 2009) and the six principles of adult learning (Knowles, Holton, & Swanson, 2005) provided a framework to capture the contextual and descriptive practices of how these teacher leaders navigated their roles and responsibilities. การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาสภาพและแนวทางแก้ไขปัญหาเรื่องการอ่านสะกดคำและเขียนสะกดคำของนักเรียนระดับชั้นประถมศึกษาโรงเรียนสังกัดสำนักการศึกษากรุงเทพมหานคร เก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลโดยการสังเกตแบบไม่มีส่วนร่วม การสัมภาษณ์และการทำแบบสอบถาม วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยการวิเคราะห์เนื้อหา ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1.สภาพปัญหาเรื่องการสอนอ่านสะกดคำและเขียนสะกดคำของนักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาในโรงเรียนสังกัดสำนักการศึกษากรุงเทพมหานคร สรุปได้ว่า 1) ครูที่สอนวิชาภาษาไทยในระดับชั้นประถมต้น (ป.1-3) ไม่ได้สอนในวิชาภาษาไทยแต่ได้รับมอบหมายให้ปฏิบัติหน้าที่อย่างอื่นในโรงเรียน 2) ครูที่สอนวิชาภาษาไทยในระดับชั้นประถมต้น (ป.1-3) ไม่ได้จบเอกภาษาไทย จึงไม่รู้หลักในการสอนวิชาภาษาไทย 3) นักเรียนที่โรงเรียนรับเข้ามามีหลากหลายปัญหา ได้แก่ เป็นบุตรของแรงงานต่างด้าว มีสภาวะเรียนรู้ช้า เป็นเด็กพิเศษทั้งที่มีใบรับรองแพทย์และไม่มี 4) เวลาที่ครูจะได้ใช้ในการซ่อมเสริมเด็กที่อ่านสะกดคำและเขียนสะกดคำไม่ได้ มีจำกัด เพราะมีภาระงานทั้งภายในและภายนอกหน่วยงานมากมาย 5) ขาดกิจกรรมส่งเสริมการอ่านสะกดคำและเขียนสะกดคำในโรงเรียนเนื่องจากข้อจำกัดเรื่องงบประมาณ บุคลากรและเวลา รวมถึงความตระหนักในปัญหาที่เป็นอยู่ 2.แนวทางในการแก้ไขปัญหาการสอนอ่านสะกดคำและเขียนสะกดคำของนักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาในโรงเรียนสังกัดสำนักการศึกษากรุงเทพมหานคร สรุปได้ว่า 1) ครูที่สอนวิชาภาษาไทยในระดับชั้นประถมต้น (ป.1-3) ควรเป็นครูที่จบเอกภาษาไทยซึ่งรู้หลักในการสอนวิชาภาษาไทยโดยเฉพาะเรื่องการอ่านสะกดคำและเขียนสะกดคำ 2) การสอนอ่านสะกดคำและเขียนสะกดคำต้องอาศัยการฝึกฝนบ่อยๆ วันละ 5-10 นาที และควรทำต่อเนื่อง 3) ครูผู้สอนวิชาภาษาไทยควรได้รับการอบรมเรื่องเทคนิคการสอนและการสร้างนวัตกรรมที่ส่งเสริมการอ่านสะกดคำและเขียนสะกดคำอย่างต่อเนื่อง 4) ผู้เกี่ยวข้องทุกคนไม่ว่าจะเป็นครูท่านอื่น ผู้ปกครอง ชุมชนควรร่วมมือกันในการส่งเสริมความสามารถในการอ่านสะกดคำและเขียนสะกดคำของเด็กจนกว่าจะสามารถอ่านออกและเขียนได้เพื่อต่อยอดการเรียนรู้ในระดับที่สูงขึ้น 5) ฝ่ายบริหารควรมีนโยบายในการลดภาระงานที่ไม่จำเป็นของครูลงแต่เพิ่มประสิทธิภาพเชิงวิชาการด้วยการให้ครูได้มีเวลาในการพัฒนาและแก้ปัญหาเด็กอ่านไม่ออกและเขียนไม่ได้ 6) ควรมีการส่งเสริมให้มีการผลิตสื่อการสอนและนวัตกรรมที่ช่วยให้นักเรียนสามารถอ่านสะกดคำและเขียนสะกดคำได้ในรูปแบบที่ทำให้นักเรียนเกิดความสนุกสนานและเพลิดเพลินแต่ได้รับความรู้โดยไม่รู้สึกว่าเป็นการเรียน 7) วิธีการสอนอ่านสะกดคำและเขียนสะกดคำที่ได้ผลมากที่สุดคือการสอนแบบแจกลูกสะกดคำ

The purpose of this study was to explore the impact literacy coaches had on Mississippi’s lower-performing schools. To guide the study, the researcher developed four research questions and four null hypotheses. The population of this study was derived from a sample of Mississippi students in Grades K-3 who were administered the Early Literacy STAR assessment for kindergartners and the STAR assessment for first through third-graders. This assessment was administered twice during the 2015-2016 school year. The pretest was given in August; the posttest was given in April/May. Despite the existing research regarding effective word-study interventions for struggling adolescent readers, various researchers propose a need for additional research on effective reading interventions to confirm and extend existing knowledge. The current study specifically investigates the impact of the overt/covert and outside-in word-study instructional intervention strategies on struggling adolescent readers’ fluency and comprehension measures. Paired samples t-tests revealed a significant difference in the pretest and posttest fluency scores of participants receiving either overt/covert or outside-in word-study strategy instruction. However, no significant difference occurred between participants’ pretest and posttest comprehension scores. The participants involved in the qualitative research process included seven in-service professional public school teachers. In Spring 2018, Omaha, Nebraska, third grade students from Black Elk Elementary School met with senior residents of Royale Oaks Assisted Living to learn about school life, past and present. Graduate students from the Educational Leadership program at the University of Nebraska at Omaha helped facilitate these meetings. The resulting book compiles essays written by the third graders about their "senior buddies," color artwork featuring hands and hearts, and quotes from the university students.

Previous research on preservice teachers’ understanding of fractions and algebra has focused on one or the other. To extend this research, we examined 85 undergraduate elementary education majors and middle school mathematics education majors’ solutions and solution paths (i.e., the ways or methods in which preservice teachers solve word problems) when combining fractions with algebra on a multistep word problem. In this article, we identify and describe common strategy clusters and approaches present in the preservice teachers’ written work. The study compares two different classroom management strategies in a 5th and 6th grade classroom using an iPad based intervention. The students participated in 10 sessions of a language and grammar intervention on the Moby Max program. During five of the sessions, the teacher actively monitored the classroom, walking around the room, and redirecting students as necessary. การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อเปรียบเทียบความสามารถในการคิดวิเคราะห์ของนักเรียนก่อนและหลังการจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้ตามแนวคิดปรัชญาสำหรับเด็ก ประชากรที่ใช้ในการวิจัยครั้งนี้ คือ นักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 5 ที่อยู่ในพื้นที่ชนบท ปีการศึกษา 2560 ที่กำลังศึกษาอยู่ในโรงเรียนประถมศึกษาแห่งหนึ่ง ประเภทโรงเรียนรัฐบาล กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ใช้ในการวิจัยครั้งนี้ คือ นักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 5 ที่อยู่ในพื้นที่ชนบท จำนวน 25 คน ซึ่งใช้วิธีการสุ่มตัวอย่างอย่างง่าย (Simple Random Sampling) เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยแบ่งออกเป็น 2 ประเภท คือ เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการทดลอง ประกอบด้วย 1) แผนการจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้ตามแนวคิดปรัชญาสำหรับเด็กเพื่อส่งเสริมความสามารถในการคิดวิเคราะห์ จำนวน 21 แผนการจัดการเรียนรู้ ใช้เวลาในการทดลองทั้งสิ้น 7 สัปดาห์ สัปดาห์ละ 3 ชั่วโมง เครื่องมือที่ใช้เก็บรวบรวมข้อมูล ประกอบด้วย 1) แบบวัดความสามารถในการคิดวิเคราะห์ แบบปรนัยจำนวน 15 ข้อ 2) แบบสัมภาษณ์แบบกึ่งโครงสร้าง จำนวน 5 ข้อ ใช้การวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลที่ได้จากแบบวัดความสามารถในการคิดวิเคราะห์ก่อนเรียนและหลังการจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้ ด้วยสถิติค่าเฉลี่ย (x ̅) ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน (S.D.) และทดสอบสมมุติฐานด้วยสถิติทดสอบ (Paired-Sample t-test) วิเคราะห์คะแนนเฉลี่ยผลต่างของคะแนนหลังเรียนของนักเรียนแต่ละกลุ่มตาม เพศ อายุ เกรดเฉลี่ย ภูมิลำเนา อาชีพผู้ปกครอง และความสัมพันธ์ในครอบครัว โดยใช้ค่าสถิติแบบ (Independent-sample-t test) และ (One-way-Anova) ผลการวิจัยพบว่า นักเรียนที่ได้รับการจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้ตามแนวคิดปรัชญาสำหรับเด็กมีความสามารถในการคิดวิเคราะห์หลังเรียนสูงกว่าก่อนเรียนอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .05 และความแตกต่างระหว่างเพศ อายุ เกรดเฉลี่ย อาชีพของผู้ปกครอง และความสัมพันธ์ในครอบครัวไม่ส่งผลต่อความสามารถในการคิดวิเคราะห์ของนักเรียนซึ่งแตกต่างกับภูมิลำเนาของนักเรียนที่ส่งผลต่อความสามารถในการคิดวิเคราะห์

The purpose of the study was to examine the effectiveness of teaching sight words using an iPad app with embedded models to students with developmental disabilities. The experimental design used was multiple probe (conditions) across behaviors replicated across students. All sessions occurred in a one-to-one format. The results showed the iPad app with embedded models were effective in teaching sight words to students with developmental disabilities.

The purpose of this study was to fill the gap in literature and further examine the use of sensory diets in the field of occupational therapy. This study investigated the use of sensory diets among California occupational therapy practitioners. A mixed-methods design was used to collect data through a SurveyMonkey survey. The survey was sent out to members of the Occupational Therapy Association of California (OTAC) and received 98 respondents within one month. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate student feedback of the 2015 Lifelines Suicide Prevention Program at Jessie Clark Middle School.
