The Nature Of The Middle School In Washington State - 1980, Edward Allen Barnhart Jan 1980

The Nature Of The Middle School In Washington State - 1980, Edward Allen Barnhart

All Master's Theses

The nature of the middle school in the state of Washington and its conformance to the middle school concept was studied. Eighty-four of the state's ninety-two middle school principals reported on programs and offerings in their schools. The study indicated that Washington middle schools conform favorably to the concept in all major areas except grading practices and athletic programs. The schools recognize a developmental stage of transescence and minister to it through child-child- centered rather than subject-centered programs. Further study is recommended to compare the middle school with the junior high school in the state of Washington.

An Analysis Of Population Changes In Eastern Kentucky 1970-2000, Gary C. Cox Jun 1979

An Analysis Of Population Changes In Eastern Kentucky 1970-2000, Gary C. Cox

Faculty Research at Morehead State University

Accurate population projections are essential for anyone engaged in long-range planning. Predicting future population trends any considerable distance into the future, however, is a notoriously risky undertaking. So many human variables are involved that all too frequently such projections make a mockery of the demographer's best efforts. Regardless of how sophisticated are the statistical models used, long-range population forcasting is statistical guessing with a fairly wide margin of error. Eastern Kentucky and Central Appalachia, in general, present an especially formidable challenge. Since the beginning of the 20th Century the economy of the region has been tied to one product, coal, …

A Model For The Development Of Educational Specifications For Small Schools, Raymond K. Wilkinson Jan 1978

A Model For The Development Of Educational Specifications For Small Schools, Raymond K. Wilkinson

Dissertations

Problem. The process of carefully planning school facilities to accomodate and support a particular educational program is but a recent addition to educational theory and practice. In fact, the use of educational specifications, in which educators describe how a school will operate, and thus guide the architects in their process of design, has developed within the same general period of time during which schools have grown in size and complexity (Callahan, 1962; Roaden, 1963). As a result, the process of planning has largely been related to big schools, and the distinctive needs of small schools have been neglected. The …
