The Hidden Value Of Multisource Progress Assessment In Medical Education, Jerome I. Rotgans, Muhammad Raihan Jumat, Henk G. Schmidt

Health Professions Education

The COVID-19 pandemic constituted a stress test for medical education, especially for assessment. Exams needed to be postponed or even cancelled. This was a problem because many schools rely on decision making with regard to student performance and their progress through the curriculum using only a few high-stake examinations. In this report we present how a medical school can make a relatively easy transition to multisource progress assessment, based on results on a large number of low-stake tests. Such tests are often integral parts of the curriculum, but hidden because they are not used for decision making. We will present …

What does it mean to become a village that learns? In this paper we document the transformative learning journey of a small Thai village over 24 years, becoming a community that identified, tackled, and iterated on problems, altering their everyday practices and lives. In that process the village shifted from a subsistence agricultural community staggeringly in debt to one known for its sustainable environmental, agricultural, and financial initiatives. To understand the village’s learning journey, we consider the village itself as the primary unit of analysis, applying an iterative case study approach, with chronological sequencing, thematic, and biographical narrative analysis …

A Glimpse Behind The Curtain: The Detailed Structure Of The May Literacy Center, A University-Based Literacy Clinic, Brian M. Flores, Amber Meyer

Journal of Research Initiatives

Literacy centers have existed in the United States since the 1920s and have seen many changes over their vast and essential history. Initially, clinics focused on remediation with a deficit view that positioned struggling readers as lazy and unmotivated. Over time, clinics shifted to a medical model, which also held a deficit view that involved pathologizing, testing, and diagnosing to "fix what was wrong" with the struggling reader. Today, university-based reading clinics focus on research-based literacy practices providing opportunities for undergraduate teacher candidates and graduate students to support struggling readers. Research on literacy clinics primarily focused on funding, student demographics, …

Research reviews contribute to understanding the evolution and trends of studies and guide future studies. Since no science mapping was provided to reveal the citation patterns and the research structure of teacher leadership (TL), we conducted a bibliometric review of 704 documents (1964e2021) in Scopus. We found that the academic area as a social field within which authors using English as a working language were more vocal. Meanwhile, university ranking rendered the swift advancement of international visibility in Asian scholars this decade. Additionally, we portrayed influential authors and documents in TL and the intellectual structure and topical foci of TL.
