Recovery Of Graded Response And Partial Credit Parameters In Multilog And Parscale, Christine E. Demars Apr 2003

Recovery Of Graded Response And Partial Credit Parameters In Multilog And Parscale, Christine E. Demars

Department of Graduate Psychology - Faculty Scholarship

Using simulated data, MUL TILOG and P ARSCALE were compared on their recovery of item and trait parameters under the graded response and generalized partial credit item response theory models. The shape of the latent population distribution (normal, skewed, or uniform) and the sample size (250 or 500) were varied. Parameter estimates were essentially unbiased under all conditions, and the root mean square error was similar for both software packages. The choice between these packages can therefore be based on considerations other than the accuracy of parameter estimation.

The Development Of A Physical Education Teachers' Physical Activity Self-Efficacy Instrument, Jeffrey J. Martin, Pamela Hodges Kulinna Apr 2003

The Development Of A Physical Education Teachers' Physical Activity Self-Efficacy Instrument, Jeffrey J. Martin, Pamela Hodges Kulinna

Kinesiology, Health and Sport Studies

In the present investigation a questionnaire was developed to assess physical education teachers' self-efficacy for teaching classes in which their students were engaged in high levels of physical activity (i.e., at least 50% of class time). Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses resulted in the development of a 16-item, 4-factor, multidimensional physical education teachers' physical activity self-efficacy scale (PETPAS) that produced reliable and valid scores. The Student factor reflected teachers' efficacy for managing students who didn't enjoy or value physical activity. The Time factor was indicative of teachers' efficacy when they didn't have enough time to teach. The Space factor reflected …

The Relationship Between Teachers' Years-Of-Teaching And Students' Mathematics Achievement, Beverly M. Klecker Apr 2003

The Relationship Between Teachers' Years-Of-Teaching And Students' Mathematics Achievement, Beverly M. Klecker

Faculty Research at Morehead State University

This study examined differences in student achievement on the 2000 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) Mathematics Test by their teachers’ years-of-experience teaching mathematics. Data examined were mean scale scores of fourth and eighth grades in five sample groups: national (public and private school students combined), national public school students, and Kentucky, Tennessee and Texas public school students. These states were chosen because of their statewide systematic school reform efforts. The research question was: Are mathematics scores of students of more experienced mathematics teachers higher than those of students of less experienced teachers? The National Assessment of Educational Progress data …

Leading Improvement In Schools By Embedding And Sustaining Change: It’S All About The Learning, Lorna Earl

APC Monographs

Developing leadership, sustainable leadership is a huge issue in education and will become even more significant. All over the world, as the “baby boomers” near the ends of their careers, we have large numbers of senior, respected administrators retiring. A lot of us came in on that same wave several decades ago. They were exciting times. What benefitted us was mentoring, support and direction. It is now up to us to ensure that our younger successors develop the confidence and the competence to be able to sustain change in their schools.

LSAY Technical Reports

The 1995 Year 9 Cohort (Y95) In 1995, a nationally representative sample of approximately 13,000 Year 9 students was selected to form the first cohort of the new Longitudinal Surveys of Australian Youth program. The sample was constructed by randomly selecting two Year 9 classes from a national sample of 300 schools designed to represent state and sector. Reading and numeracy tests were administered to students in their schools to provide information on early school achievement for use in later analyses of educational and labour market participation. Students also completed a background questionnaire about their educational and vocational plans and …

Including Students With Disabilities And Achieving Accountability: Educators’ Emerging Challenge, Martin J. Ward, Nicole Montague, Thomas H. Linton Mar 2003

Including Students With Disabilities And Achieving Accountability: Educators’ Emerging Challenge, Martin J. Ward, Nicole Montague, Thomas H. Linton

Essays in Education

The nation-wide movement toward increased accountability in our schools has been implemented in large part through state-mandated standardized testing of students. The state assessments in Texas, as in many states, have a powerful influence on educators’ decisions and practices. Whether or not students with special learning needs are provided with an educational experience in the least restrictive environment is dependent upon the decisions and actions of educators. The high-stakes testing agenda in Texas influences decisions related to the inclusion of students with special learning needs. In this article, we examine the issue of how the inclusion of students with disabilities …

The Relationship Of The Transformational Leadership Of The Administrators In America's Middle College High School And Their Feeder Institutions To Selected Indicators Of Effectiveness, Christine M. Michael

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

Middle college high schools in America identify potential college students who are at-risk in the traditional high school environment. These students are placed on the college campus to take high school and college classes and receive dual credit for the latter. The program is specifically designed to keep these pupils in high school, graduate them, and send them on to higher education. This investigation focused on the leadership style of the administrators of both the middle college high schools and their traditional feeder high schools and its relationship to four indicators of effectiveness: attendance rate, dropout rate, graduation rate, and …

The Apc Summer Institute, 2003 : A Two-Day Workshop With Professor Paul Bredeson, Paul Bredeson

APC Monographs

A shift is taking place, away from the idea of 'professional development' and towards a concept of 'professional learning'. This paper has been prepared in that context, looking at the intersection between professional learning and work, and taking into account the capacity of participants to engage with the acquisition of knowledge for personal growth and to meet the needs of their institutions. It addresses a number of themes including: professional development as part of leadership; learning, leadership and work; and the exploration of professional learning using the metaphor of architecture.

Teachers Make A Difference, What Is The Research Evidence?, John Hattie

2003 - Building Teacher Quality: What does the research tell us?

My journey this morning takes me from identifying the relative power of the teacher, to a reflection on the qualities of excellence among teachers, and dwells mainly on a study undertaken in the classroom of America’s very best teachers. My search is driven by the goal of ascertaining the attributes of excellence – because if we can discover the location of these goal posts, if we can understand the height of the bar of the goal posts, we then have the basis for developing appropriate professional development, the basis for teacher education programs to highlight that which truly makes the …
