Members Of Minority Student Organizations And Their Perceptions Of Their Academic And Social Integration, Oris Tamaria Griffin
Members Of Minority Student Organizations And Their Perceptions Of Their Academic And Social Integration, Oris Tamaria Griffin
Dissertations
Hundreds of studies of student retention have been conducted at colleges and universities over the years, and invariably they have focused on identifying student characteristics and other factors related to retention, as well as on causes of attrition which can help us identify ways to improve this situation.
Importantly the literature on student retention has identified academic and social integration as playing key roles in student retention, although admittedly some studies have shown more promise on these variables than others.
The purpose of this study was to determine if members of any one of three organizational types (social, professional, ethnic) …

The Master Of Science In Education Degree In The Field Of Elementary Education At Eastern Illinois University: A Status Study, Susan E. Horath
Masters Theses
This study was designed to obtain a descriptive profile of teachers who were recipients of a Master of Science in Education degree in the field of Elementary Education at Eastern Illinois University. Specific background and attitudinal information was gathered from questionnaire responses.
The Master's Program Evaluation Instrument (MPE) was developed as the means of obtaining information on teachers’: perceptions of specific aspects of their master's program; plans for professional development; and satisfaction with the teaching profession. Questions written on the MPE instrument were carefully selected through a review of related literature and were validated through jury review. The instrument was …
Determinants Of Student-Faculty Informal Contact, Alan W. Barr
Determinants Of Student-Faculty Informal Contact, Alan W. Barr
Dissertations
There was an examination in this study of the relationship of classroom experiences (cues) and professorial initiative to the frequency of informal student-faculty interaction in the freshman year. The research was conducted at an independent, four-year urban college in the state of Michigan with a predominantly commuter population. A survey instrument was administered to the entire freshman class in the Spring semester of 1988. Information was derived from the survey on the nature and frequency of informal faculty-student contact.
Out of the 137 freshman receiving surveys, 101 returned them. The response rate was 74%. Data from one survey returned were …

The Odyssey Of Depo-Provera: Contraceptives, Carcinogenic Drugs, And Risk Management Analyses, William Green
The Odyssey Of Depo-Provera: Contraceptives, Carcinogenic Drugs, And Risk Management Analyses, William Green
Faculty Research at Morehead State University
Depo-Provera has been a scientific and political battleground for over twenty years. At stake have been the reproductive health of women, the marketing of a long-acting contraceptive by a multinational corporation, and international family planning and population control. Seventy nations have approved its use as a female contraceptive, but the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not, because the drug is a suspected carcinogen. FDA's decision means marketing of Depo-Provera as a contraceptive is forbidden in the United States and in U.S. foreign aid programs. FDA's decision also means the drug is less likely to be used in Third …
Study Process Questionnaire: Student Approaches To Learning And Studying, John B. Biggs
Study Process Questionnaire: Student Approaches To Learning And Studying, John B. Biggs
Higher education research
Student Approaches to Learning and Studying formulates a theory of student learning which, together with the instruments deriving from it, has important implications for teaching practice at the secondary and tertiary level. The norms were established on two secondary and two tertiary large national samples. The instruments are easy and convenient to administer and score, and their inter-pretation and use are based on carefully researched but easy-to-grasp theory. Student Approaches to Learning and Studying consists of a Research Monograph which describes the investigations leading to the theory's formulation; LPQ Manual which gives data on reliability and validityand describes a 36 …
Effects Of Feedback And Incentives On The Use Of Academic Skills, Jose E. Candia
Effects Of Feedback And Incentives On The Use Of Academic Skills, Jose E. Candia
Masters Theses
This research investigates the notion that the combination of feedback and incentives are essential components for the maintenance of effective academic skills with undergraduate students on academic probation. This notion is in contradiction to the assumption underlying remedial activities in most universities, where it is assumed that once the students have acquired the skills through workshops or texts they will continue to use them.
The use of the academic skills of lecture note-taking, comprehensive reading, and critical reading was studied with three undergraduate students. That use was measured prior to the intervention, during workshops of training, when feedback alone was …

Anxiety And Safety: Two Studies Ol The Kentucky Coal Miner, George E. Dickinson, Stuart Seely Sprague
Anxiety And Safety: Two Studies Ol The Kentucky Coal Miner, George E. Dickinson, Stuart Seely Sprague
Faculty Research at Morehead State University
Two reports offer insight into the personality and working conditions of the Kentucky Coal miner. Dr. George E. Dickinson's survey measures death anxiety among miners; Dr. Stuart S. Sprague's correlated report tracks the often volatile effort to legislate and enforce safety regulations. Both reports arrive at one perhaps startling conclusion: many miners agree - and are somewhat supported by statistics - that they themselves are most frequently to blame for accidents.
