A Case Study Of Remediation For A Fifth Grade Boy With Reading Disabilities, Betty Lee Foster

The purpose of this study was to provide formal research evidence as to the effectiveness of the remedial tutorial program with one child who had been diagnosed as a disabled reader. The student had been functioning as a slow learner in the classroom. More specifically, an attempt was made to verify or reject the hypothesis that improvement of the subject's reading ability would result in an enhancement of his self-image. A second hypothesis was to determine if the regular classroom work would profit by this improved self-image.

An Investigation Of A Self-Determining Curriculum, Roger Gray

The purpose of this study was to: (1) determine what patterns of selection occurred when children chose their curricular areas at times they preferred within the school day; (2) determine what proportion of time children with academic deficiencies (identified by their pre-summer session teachers) spent in the curricular area of their deficiency; (3) present the attitudes (as revealed through a questionnaire study} of parents whose children attended a summer school using a self-determining curriculum, and (4) present the attitudes and preferences (as revealed through personal interviews) of children who attended a summer school using a self-determining curriculum.

It was the purpose of this study: (1) to determine if the SQ3R technique could be used successfully with content and reading material at the seventh grade level; (2) to present a program to seventh grade students at Okanogan Junior High to determine the effect of the SQ3R method on improving comprehension as measured by the Diagnostic Reading Tests; and (3) to determine if the study methods learned could be transferred to a content area.
