This project was undertaken because beginning teachers usually do not receive sufficient indepth training for working in team teaching situations. It is the intent of the writer to:

Schools run by the Catholic Church in Australia have traditionally formed a loose and fragmented pattern of institutions run independently by particular parishes and religious congregations. Established late in the nineteenth century a s an alternative but parallel system to government schools, Catholic education caters for almost one fifth of the nation's student population. In maintaining their long- standing general objective of providing Catholic schooling for all Catholic pupils, Church authorities have been hard pressed to expand their school facilities sufficiently to meet the great post-war rise in enrolments. These tasks have proved beyond the resources of the individual parish …

An Investigation Of Trends Towards Departmentalization In The Elementary Schools, Donald R. Breitenfeldt
An Investigation Of Trends Towards Departmentalization In The Elementary Schools, Donald R. Breitenfeldt
Graduate Student Research Papers
There have been many organizational plans, including the departmental, intended to improve the "self-contained classroom" so as to increase the child's intellectual development without hindering his personal-social development. It may be that one or more of the new plans will improve the self-contained classroom. Research evidence, not plain argument, must be relied upon to provide the answers needed. There is very little research evidence to support the claims for any elementary school plan, the self-contained classroom plan not excepted.
